I have come across an opportunity to purchase a Bushmaster AR10 And a MAK 90 AK.
I don’t know much about the quality of either of these guns.
Are these good rifles?
Pros and cons of each?
Value of each?

Thanks in advance for your expertise.

Bushmaster doesn't have a stellar reputation although some owners have had good experiences.

MAK 90 is a Chinese AKM made after the 1989 executive order banned semi autos with 2 or more features. They don't have threaded barrel or bayonet lug and didn't come come with cleaning rod. They run like a champ though. Chinese AKs have different dimensions particular in the trunion and use a different rivet pattern. Some of the MAK 90s had a different rear trunion and receiver cut and therefore would not take typical AKM rear buttstock. You can unban it as parts are still around and some US made stock sets are available. Depends how much you want to spend to unban a Chinese AK.

Condition matters a lot in the price of the Mak90 and if it has a milled receiver it will command a higher price. Also does it include any extra magazines or other accessories? Does the AR-10 have a free float rail or standard hand guards?

I personally wouldn’t pay more than $800 for the AR-10 even if it is a little bit tricked out. Can build an aero precision AR-10 exactly how I want it for around that price or a little more.

The MAK90 could be worth anywhere from $600 to nearly $1,000 depending on variant, condition and accessories.

MAK90 harder to get accessories for but has the smoothest stock AK trigger imo

Is the Bushmaster made in Windham, Maine or Huntsville, AL? The Maine-produced are generally considered better quality and more desirable in my experience, if it’s pre-Remington takeover of Bushmaster. Of course a base rifle vs. one with upgraded furniture, optics, etc. would impact value.

MAK90 is an interesting AK. Trigger is one of the best on an AK and I think the receiver is slightly thicker than other AK receivers. Very reliable. These came with thumb hole stocks that a lot of folks hate. Ironwood makes replacement stocks that set it up more like a traditional AK, but they’re $300+. If you were to do that hold on to the original for future value - many value originality. Depending on condition I’ve seen these go $850 and up as of late.

Hope this helps.

Thanks to all for the responses. I will research the particulars mentioned.
Condition of both is excellent.
AR has free float rails, bipod and Nikon glass.
MAK90 has the butthole stock, checking on accessories.

On the mak90, look up slant cut receiver pics. Slant cuts usually go for less money.

One other thing you may want to consider is that I don’t think there is an asset quite like guns that you are virtually guaranteed no depreciation. If you think of it in terms of investment you almost certainly will not lose money unless you destroy the gun...at least that is the pitch I give my wife every time I want to “invest” in a new gun haha

About the only thing comparable, are good U.S. made guitars.

Have a MAK90. Mine is a milled receiver. Is it a stamped receiver or a milled receiver? Good trigger. If it's a milled receiver and you don't want to jump through the 922r hoops just to change the stock get the choate stock have one on mine and it looks better and works great. LINK

A MAK 90 is a good gun.

Slant cut recievers I'd pay a little less for as you have fewer options with stocks. I have fabricated a Romanian stock to fit on a slant cut reciever although it has a bit of a shorter pull but was much cheaper than buying an Ironwood stocks.

Type 56 is what it's known as. Originated in 1956 with the permission of the Soviets. The Chinese improved upon the AK platform a little. The stamped receiver is thicker, lending to better accuracy as it flexes less when fired. The steel is super strong. It's made of railroad steel. The blueing is a nice touch for an AK in my opinion. These are arsenal made guns. The actions are super smooth and made of quality material. Don't confuse this Chinese made gun with other products out of China. They are top tier in the AK world compared to some of the junk that was sold in the past.

Oh, and if you come across one in 5.56 I'd scoop it up if it won't break the bank
