Was out there today (09/13/2024). It was in really great shape. Worth the drive to play, if you can get a tee time.

Lafayette courses

Was able to get to play both The Wetlands and The Farm recently. Thought both courses were in really good shape. Liked the overall layout of The Farm, but the grass in the fairways at The Wetlands really stands the ball up.

All of the courses recommended are great venues. Back in November we played Marcus Pointe and it was a solid course that only charged us $40 (green fee and cart) to play.
The annual pass for The Wetlands is $1670 then we pay $20 for a cart when we play. The pass also includes Hebert. I also know that on Wednesdays and Thursdays after noon, they only charge $35 for green fee and cart. Not sure what the other public courses in the area are charging for an annual pass.

Glad to hear it is in good shape. Saw that Mr. Bo Ramsay passed away. What an amazing man. Whatever everyone's opinion is of the course layout or condition we all are very fortunate that he and his family have given us a modern golf course to play in this area.

The girl's division was moved from Vieux Chenes to the Wetlands and the boy's division that usually plays The Wetlands is now at Cane Row. The organizer thought that there is too many force carries at Cane Row for the girls.

Played this morning at The Wetlands and the greens have improved significantly. There are still a few greens with some damage in the outer edge of the greens, but it is not disruptive. It is definitely worth playing.

Poa Annua in bermuda greens

Posted by carameldog on 3/23/22 at 3:24 pm
I am not an expert, but here is what I have learned.
Poa Annua is now the third invasive weed in the world.
Only a few chemicals labeled to spray on greens for it.
Herbicide resistance to pre and post herbicides is extensive
There is a new chemical called PoaCure. It is expensive, multi year program, can not overseed with it and if you have a severe Poa Annua issue no instant relief.
Superintendents are taking risk with other chemicals applied to greens that can damage the bermuda grass because of all of the complaints about Poa Annua from golfers.
Many years ago when clubs overseeded they use to spray a chemical called Rubigan before they overseeded that kept the Poa Annua out but did not affect the overseed (not available anymore)
Overseeding is done at the same time that Poa Annua is germinating (with no chemical to stop it), so now you will have the overseed and Poa Annua crowding out the dormant bermuda (bad transition in spring)

I was able to talk to the golf course superintendent and he told me that the Poa Annua is resistant to the herbicides that they can spray on the greens. This seems to be an issue at some other clubs we have played. I guess golf courses will go back to overseeding greens for the winter.
Wow that is a lot of work. What is the completion date to reopen the course. There is a course in Lafayette that has Dynasty Paspalum on greens, is this what is going to be planted?

The Wetlands $30.00 rate

I really love the $30.00 (green fee and cart) rate starting at noon on Wednesdays and Thursdays at The Wetlands. The golf course was in really great shape.

E-Z GO with lithium batteries. These batteries do not require the maintenance of lead-acid and have an extensive warranty.

re: Who's playing tomorrow?

Was looking to play at The Farm this coming week. Is that a picture from there? If so how many greens are like that?
This type of cold weather in South Louisiana can cause severe damage to bermudagrass greens. In December of 1989 there were a lot of greens lost. In January 2018 there was also a lot of winterkill turf damage to greens. Let's hope for the best but I know that the golf course superintendents will get the greens back in shape if needed when the spring temperatures return.

Lafayette Golf Courses

Played The Wetlands the other day. It was really good. Has anyone played any of the other courses?
It seems that the City championship in Lafayette is losing participation. Any thoughts about a two day event (one day in Lafayette (The Wetlands), the other in Baton Rouge (Santa Maria), match play.
I do not know why Brec or LCG do not offer an executive course. Seems that they are missing out on an opportunity to grow the game (youth programs, family outings and beginners).
The Wetlands on Wednesdays and Thursdays only charges $30.00 with a cart after 12pm.
