Actually, it is his fear of Ehlinger, the Texas WRs, and concern about the upcoming LSU debacle in Austin that made him quit.

That it plays so poorly against other top college football programs, or that it plays them so rarely?
Also, for the aggie poster who said on this board that Texas always chokes against good teams, this post is for you.

Should be a fun series. But nothing TEXAS does on O or D is very impressive.....
Texas has a QB who, with not much of a running game behind him, accounted for 41 TDs (and only 5 INTs). That doesn't impress you?
Beating Okie or UGA is hard. Beating both in the same season doesn't impress you?
Also guys, as I've said before, the DBs Texas lost were pretty good, but the front 7 guys on D (except for Omenihu, who didn't get drafted until the 5th round) all sucked. The guys starting in their place are all better, and all played very well against Georgia. The turnover on D is a net positive for Texas.
Lastly, 2 years ago, Texas had the best DB recruiting class of all time, for any college program. We also know your new offense better than you do. Your new offense will struggle against our DBs.
This will be a close game.

Skip going to Austin. The aggies will tell you everything about Austin sucks, and playing a non-SEC team is a waste of time.
If you want the best of Texas, just go to College Station and watch the game on TV. CS has 5* Michelin Restaurants, world class museums, and is really the epicenter of culture for our great state.

Better off trusting an airline for somewhere more reliable, like Somalia or Venezuela.

Texas next year will work out roughly like Miami did this past season. LSU will win easy, expectations will go up, then everyone will realize that the team they beat soundly was significantly overrated.
Before playing LSU, Miami lost its bowl game by double digits to Wiscy.
Before playing LSU, Texas completely controlled the game in beating UGA.
Looks exactly the same to me.

I am a realist. I'm unhealthy. I eat garbage. I drink way too much. I'm not likely to make it to 2030 to see this game. I've made my peace with that. I'll go to my grave relatively soon with Texas having a dominant head-to-head record against a&m, OU, Bama - and pretty much everyone else.
But we always get our clocks cleaned when we play a real team

As long as the athletic department of a state university turns an overall profit, the football team should be able to pay its coach as much as it wants.
This is only a handful of universities.
Public universities with athletic departments that don't make money need to have fiscal discipline enforced upon them.
Let private universities do whatever the hell they want.

Agreed. They say Georgia is in a great town. Better than Austin? No. Is UGA a better school than Texas? No.

Even if VY being the first 3000/1000 guy for a season in college, being the first QB to beat Ohio State in the Shoe at night and beating the ESPN proclaimed GREATEST TEAM OF ALL TIME pretty much by himself doesn't impress you, JR did nothing in the NFL, and VY was better in the league than people think.
ROY, multiple pro bowls, best winning % in Oilers/Titans franchise history, and another insane comeback against Leinart ([link=( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NUU6YSgNMT0)]LINK[/link] ). Also, if you Google VY & Profootball Focus, you will surprisingly see that Vince was the best deep ball passer in the NFL while he played. VY did all of this with a coach that never wanted him, hated him, and worked against him. People also thought Nick Foles & Jared Goff sucked too, because of Jeff Fisher. Look at what they did when they were mercifully spared from Fisher.

If both Texas and LSU win their first game, and they should, this ticket price will only climb as the game approaches. College GameDay will likely be there.
Remember, Texas has sucked for about a decade, and fans have been waiting for a game like this for a long time. You'll be able to buy tickets on the secondary market, but they won't be cheap.

We'll see.

I joined this board specifically because of this upcoming game. I enjoy threads like this, and I'll be posting after the game, win or lose.
My thoughts.....
Under Herman, Texas has greatly improved, and is a much better coached team than under Charlie Strong, but Herman's teams in Austin have been a hot-mess early in both seasons. Will the program take a step forward and play well at the beginning of the 2019 season? With a veteran QB there is hope, but no one knows for sure.
Another Texas flaw is not putting teams away. Texas put up huge leads against OU (first game) and UGA, and let them come back. Can this coaching staff get this team to put a good team away if they have an early lead? God knows.
The "talent" talk on this thread is interesting. Texas & LSU are VERY close in terms of talent. LSU can't beat Texas on talent alone.
I've seen people talk about the defensive players Texas lost. Texas lost a bunch, mostly in the front 7. This is not a negative, but a positive for the Horns. Other than Omenihu, the DE who went in the 5th round, everyone else Texas lost from the front 7 went undrafted for a reason. The guys who will take their place are more talented, and you could see them making play after play against Georgia in the Sugar Bowl.
This game will be interesting with LSU changing its offense to a type Texas sees all the time in the Big 12. Our DBs will know this system better than your WRs. Also, a year or so ago, Texas had the most talented DB recruiting haul in the history of recruiting. LSU is very vulnerable here.
Lastly, this comes down to Ehlinger. Look at his stats from last season, his year was bananas. He'll have a nice game against LSU. He'll run for multiple touchdowns and pass for multiple touchdowns. You can't help but be a fan of the way he plays, and you will all respect him when the final whistle blows.
