Stationed at Elmendorf AFB, AK; living in Anchorage. Turned on the news when I woke up and rapidly got dressed to go to work.
Later that morning, I was tasked with going to our training area out on the backside of the base to get "as many traffic cones as you can find" so we could start blocking off parking lots around buildings as part of the increased Force Protection Conditions.
While driving around one end of the flightline, two F-15s took off at full afterburner passing right over and scared the sheet out of me. Found out later, they intercepted a Korean Air passenger plane that had inadvertently pushed the wrong button!
