Playing Saturday, what to expect? If it is anything like the other Pine courses it should be pure.

Haven’t played since last year but was disappointed in conditions. They were letting the greens grow out and the fairways were terrible. It seemed to have fallen off from when they used to host the senior pga event. It’s still a good layout though.

I know a member who said they overseeded the fairways for the winter so the course is in good condition.

I like the course but conditions are inconsistent. I've seen it really good and I've seen it as bad as anything in town.

It was really special when it opened. Nice clubhouse and bar.

Several years after, it really went down. I have heard it's improved so please do a update after your round.

Is it still semi private ?

Yes. I think the membership just gets you preferred/early access to tee times and you can hit off grass at the driving range instead of mats though.

I play at the sister course, Gleannloch Pines, pretty often. I believe I saw a flier where you can be a "member" at those two and Highland Pines. You get preferred tee times, but I think that is the main benefit.

Now that I mention it, is there such thing as a public course? Maybe a place like Gus doesn't offer any sort of monthly payment, just pay as you play. I'm not sure.

If you’re a member at Augusta Pines, you can pay an additional $75/Month to play Highland Pines. But there are a limited amount spots left.

Update: not worth the $100 green fee. Decent conditions, but pricey IMO.

Do you live in Louisiana or Texas? As much as I hate to admit it, $100 for a weekend green fee has become what I expect for a decent course in Houston. Having said that, I have not played Augusta in years. So, maybe you are saying it's not even good enough for the going rate in Houston for decent.

I’m from Houston. It was bad for $100 by Houston standards. Memorial, Gus, Wildcat, black horse, all better.

100 dollar weekend green fees in Houston are ridiculous now. Covid seemed to have really lowered course conditions.

I'm glad that I am retired now and we play during the week only and we use Golf Now a lot.

I can't think of a public course in Houston really worth a 100 green fee, layout or condition wise.

I am planning to play Highland Pines in two weeks, hopefully it will live up to expectations.

Im playing Highland Pines this weekend, I’ll give an update.
Also, I talked to a member of Augusta Pines and now if they want to have access to Highland Pines they have to pay $2500 initiation.

Big Bopper

Played Highland Pines today, the course gets a lot play so some areas and greens show that… overall it’s in fantastic shape. The greens are so hard/fast that when a ball makes a divot, it’s really hard to repair properly. We played with a member and f Augusta Pines so we paid $100 vs $125.
Still worth the $100 in my opinion. The course is plenty wide enough, hard to lose a ball. Oddly enough my buddy said that aside from No. 12 at Augusta Pines. It’s in better shape tee to greens but they can’t compare to the greens at HP. Still my favorite course in Houston. Looking forward to hearing your opinion.

I played 9 at Highland Pines as well yesterday, and I’m not a fan of how they have those greens cut. I understand they are still new, so they are going to be hard. They look like they are on the verge of losing every single green, though. The amount of pitch marks on those greens is ridiculous, and as long as it is semi-private it’s going to get abused.

I do agree that it is tough to correctly fix a pitch mark with the greens in their current state, so that adds to the stress on them.

HP is still a great layout, but it looks like they could lose that course at any time in my opinion.

Also the 30 handicappers who live out there driving their jacked up bright Orange golf carts slamming their clubs into the ground around the greens doesn’t help either.

not meant to hijack, but... that is one of the benefits of NE Ohio spring and summer. Quality public courses for $60 on weekends.
