Could this possibly be the writing on the wall for a quarterback to enter the portal? I could see the scholarship offer be the response of a new need, if a quarterback were about to leave. I have no evidence to suggest this, just trying to understand why the offer was extended late in the process....

You seem to forget that Sullivan, Anderson, Davis, and Dillon are all sophomores this year, redshirted or not. Even though that does not excuse them from not being as productive as their potential shows, they still have some time to mature. Not too much time, but a lot can happen in 2 years....
