As a kid, I was poor and couldn't attend Skips Camp, but it was a huge deal amongst friends so I want to live vicariously through my boys ASAP

Is the PM camp still a big deal? Is 7 too young to start attending? Any feedback from parents?

Thanks

I think it's a good deal as long as they don't teach base running.

yeah and if your kid really sucks it up in practice, he will probably throw him under the bus

7 is too young. The camp is a cat herd and content is too advanced for that age. Lower your expectations or save it until he gets older.

All I want is my kid to leave camp as the next Tyler Hanover.

If you don't mind spending the money.. 7 isn't to young.. My oldest goes once during the summer and has been since he was 5.. The camp is designed to be fun with some teaching but more playing especially with the younger age groups

Take this fwiw.

If you want your kid to go and have a good time, send him to the LSU camp. If you want your kid to learn something, send him somewhere else.

It's not that lsu is a bad deal, it's that there are so many kids there it's just impossible to get much instruction.

As far as age, I'm not much help there.

Well his kid is 7 so if his plan is to send him there for instruction and not to have fun that he must be a fricking psycho

You could send him for the morning session only and start there. It gets HOT out there and you could make it a bad experience if he's burned out after the first day.

Even 7 year olds can learn fundamentals.

I coached these camps for 4 summers, and have been trying to get back into them for few years but having grown up and working the 8-5 I cannot. I will tell you this, if you kid WANTS to get better, he can. The format layout of how instruction is given is great. He will learn things there that he may not hear anywhere else. He may not come out a big league ball player, but the fundamental side of the game is very well taught. Tell him to be respectful, ask questions, listen to answer, and if he isn't completely understanding, ask a camp coach to walk him through something step by step. It was very easy to see in just 4 days, which kids were there to just goof off and which kids where there to get better. They bring in coaches/players that love the game and love to teach it to anyone wanting to listen. They find a way to teach every age group the same fundamentals, but in different ways. And on top of all of that, just the fact that your kid gets on that field and in those facilities will be something he remembers the rest of his life. I highly recommend sending your child to a camp. Will Davis has run this thing, and will continue to run this thing in a very professional manner.

Of course. I'm not sure if it is the same now but I went to Skip's camp around that age (maybe a little older), and they taught fundamentals. But it was a lot of games mostly to keep us entertained.

My son has gone for several years. He really enjoys it and has learned a lot. Will Davis runs the camps and he does a great job.

I've watched a couple of the better camp teams play and some of these young kids are amazingly talented.

The camps are a lot of fun for the kids.

My son has attended the camp the last 5 Summers. They still do games but the kids get coaching for at least 1/2 of the day. They also have homerun derby. My son won that thing.

Nice! I remember they used to give out LSU Baseball patches to the best camp performers. I felt like such a bad arse when my name was called

It's a money wank.... Much better off going to smaller camps or private lessons if you want him to learn anything that is useful. And Yes 7 yes way too young.
