Two kids less than school age. I work remote currently and wife doesn’t work. No reason to hang out up north for the winter. Have a wedding in Tampa in January and then another in Baton Rouge late March. Looking for somewhere to hang out for the time in between. Also, have a 170 lb dog so would like a house instead of a condo. Wouldn’t mind being a little off the beaten path but don’t want to drive an hour for groceries. Beach front preferred. Where would you go?

170 lb dog? You sure you don’t have a horse?

More like a black bear than a horse.

ETA if you can rent a boat.

If not, Carabelle or Longboat Key, or do 50/50.

There's a FB group called Snowbird Rentals. Just put what you are looking for and the area and people with rentals will respond.

No problem. I have a winter spot avail in MS on the water unless you are dead set on the panhandle.

Sounds like money isn’t a huge issue. Rent a house uptown Nola near Audubon Park.

Should have mentioned we would like to be on a beach. Winter down there is still pretty nice compared to our winters.

First thing that came to my mind was Port St. Joe...The Forgotten Coast.

I've rented on AnnaMaria Island off Tampa/St. Pete/Bradenton. Reasonable prices. No tall buildings, no fast food joints (unless you cross a bridge to the mainland. Family owned fresh seafood restaurants, grocery store. Bicycles to tool around if you want. Likely a few degrees more pleasant than the panhandle.

AND the best thing about it is an awesome beach that faces the sunset! Little club to get a drink, kick your feet up, and hear a little live music while watching the sun go down. Check it out.
