Where would you travel to from 12/22 to 12/31

Due to the luck of the calendar this year, it will be possible to take a really long vacation while taking only three days of vacation time. My girlfriend and I were looking at various places and I was wondering if the board had any insight. I haven't really traveled right at Christmas except to go home before, so I am a little wary about going somewhere where everything is going to be closed.
We had discussed a pretty wide range of places. Peru, Vienna & Budapest, and San Francisco/Wine Country were three that we had discussed, but I have concerns with each. Namely everything being closed for several days in Vienna & Budapest since those are obviously in countries that take Christmas seriously. There are similar problems with Peru along with it being the rainy season for most of the country, thereby making it less appealing for hiking.
I was just wondering if any of you had a positive experience traveling somewhere non-family related during Christmas season.
I am sure an OT Baller would say St. Barth's, but that is a little out of our budget for now.
Anything in the US or abroad is theoretically on the table as long as it won't run a very steep price. Fortunately, plane tickets aren't terrible overall other than Paris.

World Darts Championship in London

I've been to L.A., Disneyworld, Key West, NYC, and Nashville during that time over the years
The only place I would even remotely consider going back to during that holiday season is Nashville

Any big city is nice but pricey during Xmas. Also you need to find a deal or airfare can be pricey. But if you go to Europe, any big city will have plenty to do even on Christmas day. Just plan your trip to have that being a slow day, buy some booze and snacks for meals in your room. That kind of thing.
Southern Europe is great that time of year. Plenty of places in South America as an option. Argentina for example.

Pretty sure you know this, but anything in the Caribbean will be booked and/or an arse-raping.
But great time to be in the islands in future years if you can book in advance.

Christmas is awesome in Germany. Almost every city has a fest. Tons of Gluhwein, chestnuts, and classic Christmas stuff.

Vancouver, BC & Whistler if you ski - Vancouver is not as cold as you might think.
If you like to drive a road trip from San Diego to San Fran, or San Fran to Vancouver, BC.
or tour the southwest; Las Vegas, Utah, Arizona, New Mexico
A friend recently went to South America; went to 4 or 5 countries; Peru, Argentina, and others. I have not seen pictures yet but it sounds like it was a great trip.

I would do Christmas markets in Germany or Austria, and skiing in Austria or Switzerland.

Is Key West too crowded at that time of the year?
Do you have a suggested time frame to go?
We’ve never been but would like to.
Until I saw your comment I would have thought that would be a good time to go.

Savannah is awesome for Christmas, but I don't know that I would spend 9 days there in the winter, I'd get bored, too drunk, and too fatter, that time of year.

South Florida, Key West, and the Caribbean are slammed in the winter. Most places the winter is more than even school out summer time. Tons of people from the northeast escaping the winter.

Germany.....a combo of Munich/Salzburg. Outdoor Christmas markets, concerts, holiday foods, gluhwein and punsch, decent chance of snow. Enough indoor activities in either city to keep you entertained if the weather turns nasty (beer halls!), lots of scenery/outdoors too.
Apartment over hotel room if traveling for Christmas. More space, more homey feeling, easier to have a festive meal if you don’t feel like dining out on Christmas Day. You can buy simple greenery and paper decorations at a Christmas market, the paper decorations make a nice souvenir to hang up next year to recall the German/Austrian holiday.

Key West was really crowded during our New Year's trip.
We enjoyed it more on trips during the May-Sept time frame.

I would advise never to go anywhere during the rainy season. I made that mistake once. Never again.
I used to go to Mexico a lot during holiday times and there was no problem. However, my travel days to that country are now over.
It is nice in Central America. Belize, Panama, Costa Rica.

Rainy season for where? Peru?
Thanks for all the replies! Lots of great suggestions in this thread. We’ve actually done three of the suggestions (Italy, Argentina, and Costa Roca), although not during Christmas time.
Quick question about the Christmas markets in Germany and Austria. Are they still up in the period between Christmas and New Year’s?
I looked into some skiing locations, but the one in Idaho had almost every hotel booked up already and there are some very valid snow concerns about Taos.

No, the Christmas markets don’t extend to New Years. They’re open until Christmas Eve.

Big fan of Eastern European cities, particularly Prague and Budapest. The Christmas markets will be in full display and are amazing (but that's true of a number of other European cities like Vienna for example).

Snowmobile tour of Yellowstone! Buddy did it last year and said it’s amazing. You could fly in and out if Bozeman and ski a few days also. I’m trying to finagle the snow mobile trip myself.
