Give me some ideas for a 2026 trip.
I think ive done most of the US already unless you have a good under the radar suggestion.

I'm leaning towards a South/Central America type trip. We've done Europe the last 2 years. I know we still have a lot more to see over there but I'm thinking we will go for something different this time. And we spent a ton on travel in 2025 so I think we want to wait before we spend the type of money that we would want for an Asia trip.

Married couple with no kids. She's never been to Central/South America. I've been to Costa Rica. In the Caribbean weve been to Puerto Rico, the Bahamas, and Anguilla.

Married with no kids heading south I'd look at Argentina.

You're in a place where you can enjoy 3 hour wine tasting and steak dinners that would be my jam.

Buenos Aires/Montevideo (city); Mendoza (wine), San Carlos de Bariloche (mountains)

Peru is a great trip that won't completely break the bank.

Guatemala can be an awesome week, if you split it between Antigua and Lake Atitlan.

But, yeah, Argentina is awesome, though I would go hiking in El Chalten. Iguazu Falls is two days, if you want to add it

On the other side of the Andes, check out Valparaiso, Chile. Then head south to hit up some of the national parks and Alpine views.

Most of the interesting stuff (city wise) is on the East side, but that's spending 17h from LAX to fly to a country basically the size of the USA.

Argentina is intriguing. I'm a bit surprised no one mentioned Ecuador. The Galapagos were on my list.

Australia is out for now. There's a good chance I'll be working there at some point for a little while

I'm never going to DV you, but he asked for under the radar. If he was single and looking to collect some flags, understandable.

We rarely use an agency, but when planning Peru, Equador and Galapagos we used Vaya Travel to help with local booking and flights - LINK

Our experience was that they helped you develop a profile of interests, tastes and budget. Then they gave us a flexible list of choices. We had no complaints other than a long layover in Quinto before flying to Houston. To fill some of those hours they had a guide pick us up at the airport and take us to dinner at a nearby resort...their expense.

Quinto and the rest of Ecuador are very welcoming. It's promoting itself as a retirement home for Americans... they use the US dollar. Quinto itself is far more laidback than Lima. Peru's capital is a big bustling city with very bad traffic. Once you head into the mountains life relaxes.

Two cautionary notes. First, don't go if you have any high-altitude issues; you will get to 10,000ft. While at Machu Pichu we witnessed a Japanese tourist being medevac'd out due to dangerous altitude sickness. Second, getting a food-born illness somewhere on the trip is a high likelihood.

Non-Europe? (I'd stil vote Slovenia!)

Selected Photos

But, based upon where I've been...

1. Vancouver Island
2. Belize ( Stayed On Glover's Reef)
3. Grenada (We stayed off Grand Anse, but went to lunch next to Sandals Grenada)
4. We loved Emerald Lake Lodge in Alberta.
