I'd imagine if it goes a certain way you won't want to be around some of the main protest areas.

The good news is you can largely avoid that if you've been before. I was in DC visiting friends during the inauguration and only saw protestors after the fact all over town but not in an organized fashion.

I’d imagine the election and inauguration being two very different things for DC

Inauguration certainly brings more people.

But last election there was no expectation he would win so I don't think anything was planned. I'd expect some planning on that front this year. But just a hunch.

Never been before. We will be in Virginia for two weeks so we may just go the week before.

I had a trip planned for the week after but cancelled. Wife and kids were going. I would probably go it alone, but not taking them.

I had booked a trip election week back in January. So it was booked before Covid and all of the protesting and rioting. I canceled the trip a month ago. Not taking a chance of bringing my family around that dangerous situation.

Obviously we don't have to go to DC. We just thought about driving up for a day since we will be so close.

If it wasn't for covid we would stay a few days and see the Smithsonian museums but I have health issues and have not been going into any public places at all. We are doing outdoor activities only.

There are many monuments and other places that are outdoors. The Lincoln Memorial, Jefferson, Viet Nam, Korean, Arlington Cemetery, WWII, the tidal basin. Most of those are in or around the National Mall but require a lot of walking if you don’t use some type of public transportation.

Not sure about Mount Vernon; never been.

We enjoyed walking around National Harbor which is across the river from Alexandria. It has a lot of restaurants in a small area.
