Pretty interesting plan, and I know many in South LA plan ski trips so there is some important take aways.

LINK

Pass holders will be required to make a reservation before arriving at the mountain.

Throughout the season, pass holders will be able to make as many week-of reservations as their pass type and availability allow.

The early season will be reserved for pass holders only. We will not sell lift tickets until Dec. 8.

In addition to week-of reservations, we will also be providing pass holders with the opportunity to book up to seven Priority Reservation Days for the core season (Dec. 8-April 4), or as many days of access as they have on their pass if less than seven. The booking window for Priority Reservation Days will open Nov. 6 and will be exclusive to pass holders until Dec. 7.

As pass holders use their Priority Reservation Days, they can book new ones, maintaining up to seven (or however many days of access are remaining on their pass) at any time. In addition, pass holders can always make as many week-of reservations as they choose (or however many days of access are remaining on their pass).

Families will be able to book reservations together if they are in the same pass holder account.

While still subject to change, at this time we do not believe pass holders will need a reservation to access our partner resorts (Telluride, Sun Valley, Snowbasin, Resorts of the Canadian Rockies, Hakuba or Rusutsu).

Lift tickets (including Buddy and SWAF tickets) will go on sale on Dec. 8, with sales limited based on the number of spaces available for any given day after our exclusive pass holder reservation period. This season, lift tickets will be sold with a reservation for a specific resort on a specific date.

Given the need to manage lift tickets sales, they will only be sold on our websites and through our call centers. No lift tickets will be sold at the ticket window in resort – you may only pickup your pre-purchased lift ticket at our ticket windows.

We will be encouraging guests to purchase in advance – though guests can purchase a same day lift ticket online or through our call centers, subject to availability, and then pick up the lift ticket at the ticket window.

We are planning to kick off the season with Keystone opening on Nov. 6, weather permitting. You can find our targeted opening and closing dates for all of our resorts here. Regardless of how many people are skiing and riding this season, we will follow our historical practice to open as many lifts and as much terrain as soon as possible to allow for the amazing mountain experience our guests have come to expect.

This sounds like a headache and something that will push me away from booking Vail resorts. Been to Vail/Breck the past three years and for their outrageous prices and now complicated setup (non-passholder), it's just not worth going this season. It's going to be a shitshow over christmas/new years/holidays I bet with tons of non-passholders unable to get the required reservations

Saw it this morning. I am glad they are releasing a plan at least, we've been speculating all summer on how it was gonna work. I still don't have passes yet and if it weren't for my kids I would probably just sit this season out.

For locals I imagine trying to book a weekend day after New Years could be difficult. While I would appreciate the shorter lines and less traffic, I am hesitant to drop $2k on a family of passes not knowing if we will get to use em enough.

I'm looking at everything. Copper adults are $600 and kids are free so only out $1200 there. Or just getting the Colorado School Kids passes, 5th grade free and 6th grade $100. Gets em 3 days almost everywhere, I could just pay window price if I ride that day. Or perhaps I could pencil whip it and get my kids the Epic school kids then I just buy an Epic pass(got a $140 credit). frick who knows...

I'm honestly to the point that I only wanna ride on powder days. Those low light days with some dust on crust...I'm good on those.

Has Copper announced their plans? We're same boat... I'm hesitant to drop $$ and commit to a particular season pass and be stuck to those mountains, only to get screwed on reservations (ie the days we want to go, its booked). It's tough to get out there 10+ days a year with work/kids/school.

No one other than Vail has said anything yet, I imagine they were all waiting to see what the big boy did.

5th and 6th grade Colorado kids passes are only valid on weekdays this year so that’s out. They are also charging for $40 for the 5th grade, it’s always been free up til this year.

If I wasn’t moving out of Colorado in a week I would be buying a Loveland pass. GREAT skiing at Loveland.

Leaving Denver next Friday to do some camping in telluride. After that, I will start my way out there. I plan to be there around 9/12 ish.

I am torn on if i should use my epic credit and ski Stevens pass, get ikon and go to crystal, or just get a Mt Baker pass. I am getting a new set up this year that will allow me to back country if needed in case these places shut down again or the experience is awful.

I am buying a pass a Sugar Mountain even though I live 5000 miles away and don't plan to visit. These resorts are really going to need some help this year. If this is a sport you enjoy then do what you can t help out.

Wow, great info to know. I was on the fence about getting Epic and the school kids played a big part in the decision. Looks like Ikon only for me this year.

So it’s pretty much impossible for day passes to get reservations for Mardi Gras week with this?

Right now, yes it is impossible. You would have to purchase season passes to book that far in advance. If you don't intend on buying season passes then you would have to make a reservation for those days the week of Mardi Gras. Which obviously is too big of a risk... so I would wait for other ski mountains to announce their plans and see where else you can visit this year that is not on Vail Resorts.

I just got off the phone with them. They said with a day pass you have priority making reservations. I asked her three times, "Does this guarantee we get reservations for Mardi Gras week once the window opens". She said it does.

I'm not sure if I trust that, but I guess we will find out November 6th.

The 5th and 6th grade passes are different from the Epic school kids which covers k-5th. Just wanna make sure you know. I have one 6th grader or I would just do Epic again and get them the Epic school kids.

Oh well there you go! Glad you clarified. And yes Nov 6th see if you can get some type of email confirmation. If you're on top of it you will be fine. It's now going to be the late folks who won't get a reservation once it is all booked.
