Not sure this is the right board for this question, but here goes. I’ve missed attending stadium baseball games since the local team left town for greener pastures. Thinking about driving over to Biloxi this weekend for a Shuckers game. Will probably make a day of it on the Gulf Coast. Any suggestions/tips/advice re: parking/stadium food/what-have-you? Thanks!

Only game of theirs I ever attended was their 1st ever home opener, which I found out this evening was 10 years ago today.

The stadium is right across from the Beau Rivage, and on the edge of Biloxi's shell of a 'downtown'. On- street parking was free and safe just a block or two in that direction, by Nativity BVM Church on Howard Avenue.

I think there's a brewpub close by the stadium on the north side.

If casinos are your thing, again, Beau Rivage is across Hwy. 90 and Hard Rock is a couple of blocks down.

If you make a day of it, I recommend the Walter Anderson Museum in Ocean Springs and the George Ohr Museum in Biloxi. Beauvoir is kind of neat, too.

Have fun!

The stadium is right across the street from the Beau Rivage. You can park there. There are several very good restaurants in the Beau. BR Prime Steakhouse is the best. I also like the Italian restaurant and Jia Sushi Bar and Japanese restaurant. Go. Good day trip.

Great suggestions, thanks. I’ve made several visits to them all during previous, longer trips to the coast. I’d add the Maritime Museum to the list. We went not expecting much, and were blown away by how much we learned about the history and development of the coast. A sleeper of a cultural attraction!

We are trying to get our old baseball game-going friends to join us. If they come along, casinos are on the agenda. (Both like to try their luck.)

Thanks for the good info!

Le Bakery for good turnovers or a great banh mi. Vung tau for Vietnamese. The fillin station is a neat little spot. These are casual, lunch spots.

Thank you for these tips! My SO loves Asian food, so a visit is definitely on the menu. We’ve been spending more time on the coast lately, so will file away any we miss for a later visit.

If she likes Asian then be sure to visit Long Beach market and deli in Long Beach. Very good.

Another good tip!

We actually stopped there in April during a quick weekend trip to the Pass, after another poster recommended it. (I need to write a trip review. Got some great recommendations from the board!)

I probably recommended it when you posted about hotel whiskey. Did you end up staying at HW? We always enjoy staying there.

We did! Hope to go back for another weekend later in the summer. Crammed a lot into our short visit, including a productive charter fishing trip out to a former lighthouse in the channel. Will see if I can get a review up later on today.

The MS gulf coast is such a hidden gem. We love to hang out on the beach near PC and just read books and drink all day.

Heartily agree! We’ve thrown in the towel on our former favorite beach destination (30A.) Too many bad experiences with no respite. Our recent visits to the MS Gulf Coast have been refreshingly relaxing. Interactions with the locals have been welcoming and friendly, and fellow visitors seem to be a respectful lot. A pleasant change!

(We decided to hold off on our day trip for a week or two. This weekend’s heat suggests that indoor activities will be best.)

Follow-up to my earlier request for recommendations. Spouse and I drove over to the MS Gulf Coast for a baseball game. We made a day of it, stopping at the newly opened Buc-cee’s on the way.

We ate at the Slidell Cracker Barrel on the way out of town. The place has been refurbished since our last visit, with fresh paint, new seating, different room dividers, and significantly diminished vintage display items. I heard that they have a new CEO who’s trying to shake things up. It felt like a welcome change in there. The old store was starting to feel tired. The refresh seems to have uplifted the spirits of the staff. Everyone who worked there was upbeat and happy.

We stopped at the new Buc-cee’s on the way to Biloxi. Place is still packed two weeks after opening. Staff were all upbeat. Our cashier said that things had started to slack off, but that Scrapin’ the Coast had brought in a surge of activity. We noticed that there’s a lot of empty floor space compared to other Buc-cee’s we’ve been to. Lots of room to grow into. The grand opening flags are still up all over the lot, and there’s a giant inflatable beaver on the interstate side of the store. It’s a fun stop, especially if you have kids.

We parked in the Beau Rivage free lot, and took the skybridge to the ball park. As mentioned in the earlier posts, the elevator on the park side wasn’t working, but it was still fun to cross the street that way. I even got a little vertigo looking down at the traffic. Navigating into the park was a little tricky, and we made it to our seats just before the national anthem. Game was fun. (Visiting team won.) We sat in the visitors section, but everyone was good-natured and respectful. Spouse complained that the drinks were overpriced, but I thought I had been undercharged for our snacks (I hadn’t), so I guess it evened out.

We drove up Beach Blvd. to BSL after the game, and it was lined with people in camp chairs, just sitting in groups hanging out. I asked if they were waiting for fireworks, and was told that they were just waiting for the cars which were cruising up and down the street as part of Scrapin’ the Coast. It looked like good, clean fun, and I couldn’t help but notice that most of the groups were racially mixed. Everyone seemed so relaxed; I couldn’t help but reflect that a similar event in New Orleans would inevitably end with a shooting. Everyone we encountered on our day trip was happy, relaxed, and unstressed. Not sure to what to attribute this, but it was good to see, and a nice break from the city.
