Ok- what is the deal for access to Canada if you have had a DUI. One of the folks in our group traveling in October has one and we don’t want to fly in and find out he can’t stay.

Going to work? If so your company's HR department has set up the paperwork to buy the work permit. At the permit office at the customs in the airport they will search the background and yes if there is an arrest on record they will ask if it led to a conviction. If so then that person is likely not allowed in the country. This arrest should be listed on the application for permit the HR person send to be filled out. Do not lie on the application because they will see the arrest. Now if you are simply going to do touristy things just deny any arrests and go on about your merry way because they don't so background checks for tourists. No problems to go in and not work. Those Canadians don't like us in their country working although millions of them cross the border daily to work in the US.

I never heard of that as an issue. Unsure if mine shows up on background, but I just flew in showed my passport and went on my way.

Found this

In order to enter Canada with a DUI conviction on your records, you will either need to be deemed “rehabilitated” or granted a temporary resident permit. A person is deemed rehabilitated if he has no criminal convictions for a minimum of 5 years after the completion of the imposed sentence.

They'll ask on the customs card if you're there for personal, business, or study

If you shoot something and want to bring it back youll have to declare it through US customs. Just got back from Canada and some hunters were hung up at US customs

You better check this out. We took a cruise to Canada a couple of years ago and were warned that this could be a problem. But at least they don't have a wall on their southern border.
