Travel insurance recommendations

Does anyone have a good resource for travel insurance? I am looking into a Punta Cana trip and wanted to see what type of trip insurance is out there. Thank you in advance.

For the last trip I bought something on www.travelinsurance.com. I bought a policy that covered major medical problems and medical evacuation. It's much cheaper than insuring the cost of the trip and I can eat the trip cost if need be. Medical can be catastrophic.
Note - if I had bought travel insurance (not medical) for every trip I've taken I'd be out the cost of a really nice trip by now.

I have never purchased trip insurance. I generally book airfare that is transferable. IOW, I can't get my money back, but if I have to cancel the ticket, I have a credit w/the airline. Ditto for lodgings; I usually only book places that are refundable or at least partially refundable.

The only time I've ever bought trip insurance is recently when we were traveling with our < 1 year old.
I thought it was one of those things that was largely a waste of money if you are just a normal traveler without health issues.

It all depends where you are going, how far ahead of time you buy balancing it w the likelihood of a problem.
EX MEDICAL
when I send someone over to Cuba, if they will stay more than 7 days,or doing risky activities, I suggest MEDICAL INSURANCE. Should you have a problem there you are in trouble. There is coverage from about $ 3 to $ 10 per day.
As far as flight Ins..... everyone is different and airlines are different. Also, the c card that you buy w may cover some trips.
With SW, I do not worry. If I cancel I have a full year to use the $.
Am Air . I do not usually buy the ins, but if you get their lowest fare, it is not refundable in any way.
I suggested it to some customers who were going to Cuba and indecisive as to the return days and they refused...
they did not stick to the original plans and lost the return flight. Also, if you are buying months in advance, your life may cause you to change something.
It is a risk / reward vs budget kinda thing.

What are you looking to cover? Pre existing medical conditions are usually not covered for example. As said, if you have someone that may die soon like a great aunt you are usually better just buying transferable airline tickets and refundable hotel rooms.
The going rate for normal travel insurance is around 6-7% of the cost of your trip. But you really HAVE to read the fine print to see what is covered, and a lot of things like airfare don't need to be covered.

I typically buy mine off worldnomads.com. I only buy for international trips so I have medical coverage. The trip protection and insurance on lost or stolen goods is a bonus. You never know what can happen medical wise when going international. One of my friends got a lung infection when we were in Thailand and was in the hospital for like 1-2weeks and the travel insurance covered most of the costs.

That's who I go with too.
On a related note, a friend of mine who was supposed to travel to SE Asia in 5 weeks just came down with a serious brain infection.
If we were overseas when that happened he would have probably died and who knows what else. Odds are low but for $100 it's worth it to have to get you where you need to be.
Insurance for flights and all that isn't what I care about really. Just medical.

Honestly it depends on where you go though. My FIL bought it for our trip to England and my daughter got an ear infection. Doctor visit was free, and the Chemist was like 11 pounds.

I apologize. I meant insurance to get a refund if the trip is cancelled bc of a hurricane or some other reason like that. Not medical insurance. My apologies for not being clear. As you can tell I'm not well traveled, and I was just curious if this is something that is commonly purchased.

This is a fairly pointless reason to buy it for your destination. If you live along the gulf coast then you’d be more likely to redeem it for a hurricane hitting your home and preventing you from going.
Travel insurance is really only something that covers a place that is un inhabitable or when you are unable to get there. If a hurricane is destined to go somewhere, they will cancel your trip and refund you or it’s a shithole you shouldn’t stay in anyway. Owners/ businesses don’t want guests if there is a legit storm.
If it hits before or after your trip, you will have a very hard time getting any reimbursement if the place is still perfectly habitable it’s just not ideal. Like the resort is fine but the surrounding area sucks. If it hits during your trip, I mean sure, but what are the chances of that?
I’m not trying to scare you away, it’s simply a product that has a lot of fine print.

Get the chase sapphire reserve credit card and you won’t need travel insurance

Does chase sapphire cover medical? Just curious because I have that card and not sure if all the benefits?
