Thinking of taking a quick trip down to Costa Rica later this summer

Just looking at a pretty quick 4-5 night getaway down in Costa Rica. Have not been before. Flights are cheap down to SJO, not so cheap to Liberia.
Was looking at flying down to SJO, driving over to Jaco and staying Jaco for a few nights.
Any experiences there?
Also, this would be during the rainy season. How bad will that be in Jaco near the beach?

Keep driving, a little further, unless you're there for "partying".

The beaches there suck.
Manuel Antonio is not much further and has great beaches and just a much nicer area.
Great fishing from both places if that's what you're wanting to do.

Unfortunately since it'll be a couples trip I'm not sure there will be any fishing.
Can't we go down to Manuel Antonio if we want to go to the beach?
Also where would you recommend, area wise, staying in that area?

Went to Costa Rica a couple of years ago with the wife and kids. Stayed at Parador in Manuel Antonio. Not sure your budget but the place was nice. There is a sort of secluded beach right around the corner. They will take you from the hotel in a golf cart and drop you off at the trail leading to the beach. When you are ready to leave the beach, someone at the beach will call up to the hotel and have someone waiting there in the golf cart to pick you up and bring you back to the hotel. On the hotel grounds we saw sloths, tons of howler and capuchin monkeys.

I'd skip Jaco then, honestly. It's a dirty dump that most people visit for other things or fishing from nearby.
In Manuel Antonio, we stayed in a sweet AirBnB for cheap, but it was a 1br. There's a ton to choose from. There's a bunch of bars/restaurants in walking distance from most anywhere in MA or a short taxi ride to Quepos. A bus ride to the park (amazing beaches & wildlife) is like 85cents. It's a very safe area as well.
ETA: Jaco was good for a jumping off point to Isla Tortuga and we enjoyed a few bars/restaurants in Jaco. I just wouldn't include it in a future trip.

Manual Antonia is cool but also check out monteverde. I loved it up there.
I'm thinking of going to Costa Rica soon for a long weekend and doing ayahuasca. Working my arse of lately has taken a toll on me and im ready for something new and exciting.

Research Montezuma. It’s the coolest spot in CR, IMO. The waterfalls outside of town are epic, and Cabo Blanco is a great place to hike. The town is very quaint.

Montezuma looks a little too far for purposes of this trip. If we were going to be in CR for a full week I would say definitely.

Probably your best place to go for a quick, first, couples trip. It's very touristy but the beach is pretty and the wildlife is fairly good. There are better places (the Osa Peninsuala, San Gerardo de Dota), but you really need more time to do them. Maybe if you could get a quick transfer to the Arenal Observatory Lodge, that could work. It's mountain instead of beach but very nice with an excellent trail system and view of the volcano (when the clouds don't hide it). Costa Rica is manageable in the rainy season, take an umbrella, it usually isn't raining all that hard.

If you're going to the Jaco area stay at Hermosa Palms

Stayed here as well. Awesome place and not a bad drive from MA.

I stayed two full summers in CR near Jaco. What is written above here is pretty much true.
Don’t worry about rainy season, it will drizzle but not likely lightning. Just expect it and don’t change any plans because of it.
Playa Hermosa, Playa Ventanas, Manuel Antonio are all good beaches. Dominical if you like to surf, smoke, or meet hippies.
Flight to Quepos is cheap and easy. Go out from Dominical for cheap scuba/snorkeling day trips if you want to see sharks.
Consider paying a local to drive you into the mountains. You will not likely want to do the driving in the mountains or semi off road without a local guide during the rainy season.
