Cool story, thanks for sharing! I can't imagine trying to do some of those hikes at altitude or before they opened those lifts up

Way above my skill. It's been 30 years since I've skied Breckenridge (or anywhere for that matter) and we never ventured outside the normal lifts. Blacks were enough test for me.

I didn’t start skiing until I was in my mid 40’s. I never go beyond blue runs. I’m 61 . I’m okay with that. But watching skiers rip the true expert stuff is fun. Glad my kids can do it. Cruising corduroy is much more my style....often with silhouettes of zoo animals off to my right...

Very cool video, thanks for sharing. I hiked up to the top of peak 6 off the Kensho lift several years ago. It was probably only 200 yards or so, couldn't imagine doing all they did in the 80s. Incredibly beautiful up there.

It’s very cool up there standing at the top of Breck and looking at Copper.

Breck is quick to throw a double sign up. There are a few lines that are sub 30 degrees but I guess the exposure and them trying to scare people a little is why it gets the sign. The Lake Chutes side looks legit, Whaletail not so much.

You’re spot on with this. Lake Chutes is the toughest terrain on the mountain imo. Whales tail is almost like a blue, that goes into a black, but they call the entire thing a double black.

Breck over plays Blacks/Blues for crowd reasons. For example, Peak 10 is blacked out, but there is some Blues on Peak 6 that are tougher than some blacks on Peak 10. I’ve done basically everything you can do at Breck. There’s definelty a lot tougher terrain mountains in Colorado. But nowhere I’ve been has the high alpine quite like Breck.
