Hope you’re having a great time. Let me know if you’re around this weekend for a beer.

Probably a no go for beers unless you happen to be up for Dillons early. I’ve got family stuff starting at 3:00 (including hockey outside the city) and fly out early tomorrow. Definitely doing Dillons for some of Bama game.
Planning to hit up Haymarket or somewhere for coffee/people watching this morning. Probably back in Feb.

Inspired by Abita, I'm creating a working thread for Chicago that should be posted within the week. Similar to Boston, a lot of Chicago threads pop this time of year asking for the same recommendations during spring and summer. It'll be a thread I continually edit / answer individual questions. There are, like, two other current Chicago residents on this board that I'd like to include after I post / they read through it.

Paging Abita,
Any recommendations for a beer/bite to eat before the game today? With my dad in town for FDW and catching tonight's game.

In Fenway? Check out eventide or Eastern Standard.

Quick Boston trip review. My dad is a big baseball fan and always wanted to see Fenway, He’s had a couple bad years mobility wise, but is doing better, so I surprised him with a quick trip with my bro in law and nephew coming along as well.
Stayed in Back Bay and would stay there again. It was easy to get Ubers to other parts of town and wanted to stay somewhere where we could just walk back after the game. Also a bunch of shopping, bars, restaurants in that area as this thread covers.
I got in late Tuesday morning, so I had a solo lunch at Atlantic Fish Co. Had some excellent oysters and a lobster roll. The rest of folks arrived later in the afternoon. They were hungry, so we went and got some apps and beers at a little music bar called The Bebop. Selected mainly as they had kid friendly appetizers for my nephew and it was very close. But had good beers and some live music.
Had a great steak dinner at a place called Grill 23. Fairly Standard high end steakhouse but was really, really good and right up my dad’s alley (except the price, which he would never pay, lol).
Next day we hit the Freedom Trail for a few hours. We just did a self guided tour but it was great and my dad loved it. After a couple of hours we walked up to Neptune Oyster. Tiny place with no reservations. Got there at 11:45 and waited about 40 minutes. My dad had his first ever lobster roll. Fantastic. Very generous with the lobster, couldn’t even finish mine. Looked like a really cool old neighborhood, will explore more next time.
Then ubered over to the wharf and did a 1 hour harbor cruise. Good narrator and fun to see the city from the water.
Headed back to the hotel to get cleaned up and get ready for the game. As my bro in law and I are beer geeks, we had some pre game beers at Trillium near Fenway. Beer did not disappoint. None of us were very hungry but we got small pizzas delivered to our table from the TmeOut Market (food hall) next door.
Walked over to Fenway and it didn’t disappoint. I loved and so did my dad. Sox won and the crowd was fun. Walked back to the hotel and crashed. Had been going non stop since 8 am
Didn’t have a time of time on Thursday before the airport. Had some breakfast at a little cafe and then took at Uber to the public gardens, walked around then had a leisurely stroll back to the hotel along the Commonwealth Ave Mall admiring the memorials along the way.
Quick trip but fun to do with my dad. Love Boston

Just wanted to say that my family and I just wrapped up our first trip to Boston last week. It was myself, wife, and 2 kids aged 13 & 14.
I gleaned a ton of info from this thread and others on here. We stayed 4 nights and had 3 full days to explore.
We stayed in an apartment 1 block south of Boston Common.
Highlights of our trip included:
Freedom Trail- we used a guide from Tripadvisor, took about 2.5 hours and it was great. Group of about 10 people and the guide was informative and funny
Boston Common/Public Garden- we strolled through the parks early on Thursday morning and it was very peaceful. Many people out jogging before it got too hot. Spent some time at the Good Will Hunting bench watching the ducks go by. I enjoyed it more than Central Park in NYC- its a lot smaller and more relaxing vibe to me.
1.5 hour sailing cruise around Boston Harbor, this was a great time. We did it late afternoon, comfortable breeze and drinks on a sailboat
Harvard- strolled around Cambridge and Harvard Yard, walked over to the Football Stadium and were able to get inside.
We caught a Sox game at Fenway on Friday night vs the Dodgers. Had a great time at an old ballpark, got there early to spend some time around the outside of the stadium. My son and I went back on Saturday to see Kershaw pitch.
USS Constitution- cool to see "Old Ironsides" a sailing Navy vessel from the 1790's.
We tried to eat at Neptune's and Regina's pizza, but both had long lines. We were able to get Regina's at Quincy Market, and it was very good.
I had a lobster roll at Legal Sea Foods, and it was excellent. The bun was buttered and grilled and filled with warm lobster meat. I had another one later and Yankee Lobster and it wasn't as good. We also passed by Sail Loft but the wait was over an hour. We aren't "foodies" but we enjoy eating and drinking local places that we can't get back home. But we also didn't want to spend our limited vacation time waiting in line.
All in all it was a great time. We found the city to be clean, walkable, and the people we interacted with were all nice. It was a great visit, thanks to this thread for tons of info!
