what did you love in Spain? What cities did you visit? what would you absolutely skip?
Lloret de Mar, '87
Totally hypothetical schedule:
Night clubs don't start hopping until midnight.
The Texas Saloon was the best place to get Sangria mid-morning on your way to a mid-day nap.
Revolution was the best night club - strong drinks, loudest music, mind-boggling laser/light show. And of course, the giant rotating dance floor was always packed.
If you take pictures of the Hash dealers trying to sell hash to your friends at the beach, make sure you can run faster than the dealer -- they will chase you.
There was a Polynesian Bar, can't remember the name, Hula something, that had a drink served in a giant triangle shaped glass with 3 straws. Share a couple of those with your friends and you will have a great night, but will never again be able to pass SCOTUS confirmation scrutiny. ***If you want to have a semblance of what a coma feels like, drink a couple of them by yourself.
If you refuse to let go and fall off of the mechanical bull due to Sangria-courage, the guy running it will put it on high. If you still refuse to let go, you will most definitely end up with black-n-blue balls.
When you get separated from your mates while trying to talk to a couple of Senoritas and your Spanish is shite, and their English is nil, make sure your mates know to find you back at the Texas Saloon dancing on the bar with the Senoritas while holding pitchers of Sangria in each hand.
Make sure to take a tour of a vineyard that offers 'Authentic Spanish BBQ" and "All you can drink". You will make friends, and possibly dance on more tables.

Consider going to Basque Country (San Sebastian / Bilbao) and up to Asturias to the Picos.
I ve been to a fair amount of places and that region is some of the nicest scenery I have seen. Not at all like you would imagine Spain looks like.
Kind of like West Virginia meets the dark bluest ocean you will ever see. (Minus the trailer parks and dollar generals)
We were lucky and caught San Sebastian on two consecutive sunny days (it rains a lot). Beautiful place.

I REALLY want to go to San Sebastian but it doesn't appear to be in the cards this trip. I'm giving the wife the trip she wants.
Barcelona/Seville/Madrid with a side trip to Cordoba.

Understand. Fun City. I'm just not a real big city touristy area kind of guy. La Sagrada Familia is one of the great wonders of the world. We walked everywhere. Boardwalk area on the Sea around the Olympic Village was fun.
How about a day trip to Girona?

I doubt we will have time. I've looked into Girona a bit it looks awesome. I wanted to go to the Roca brothers restaurant there but I doubt I'll do what is necessary to get a reservation.

Try Valencia and Cadiz for a more authentic Spain experience

We have enjoyed Madrid today. The architecture is beautiful. We downloaded a walking tour and saw most of the central sights. The food market was incredible. Had a late lunch at Lateral with great tapas and now we’re resting before a Flamenco show and late dinner. I’d love to come back here to spend a few days and just explore.

Dinner in old Madrid tonight. Amazing experience. Don’t be afraid to get off the touristo path and explore. I feel perfectly safe here and the deeper I delve the more I appreciate the city.

I went in May of last year for 3 weeks alone. I rented a car and stayed in about 10 different cities along the way.
-Madrid gets a bad rap IMO. Most people try to compare it to Barcelona I think, but they're two very different cities. I had a blast in Madrid. The food is great. The nightlife is great. The museums are great. I went to a Real Madrid game. I went to a bullfight. The late night tapas scene on the weekend is unbelievable. There's just so much shite to do there.
Someone on this site described it the best way for an American, Madrid is like the NYC of Spain, while Barcelona is like the Nola of Spain (except way bigger).
-One added thing about Madrid is you can take a day trip to Toledo which is probably the most "Medieval" city in Spain. It just looks like the prototypical "little town in Europe". So much history and definitely worth a see.
-Agreeing with another poster here, Sevilla was probably my favorite city I stopped in. I was alone so I enjoyed the young crowd and the party scene. That might not be your cup of tea, but the city has so much more. Plenty of history and beauty to keep you occupied.
-Granada was probably my second favorite city. The beauty, culture, and atmosphere was unlike any other city in Spain that I stopped in. The tapas scene is unmatched as it's one of the last remaining places you actually get almost a full meal just by drinking. I don't think I ever ordered dinner, only drinks and the food came in droves. Also the Alhambra is the most visited site in Spain, and for good reason. It's amazing. It takes almost a whole day to see.
-Barcelona was as everyone says, impressive, with everything you can imagine. This was towards the end of my trip so I actually didn't enjoy it as much as most others will tell you. My favorite day here was taking a day trip to the Costa Brava region and doing some cliff hiking and jumping by my lonesome. That was probably the funnest day of my whole trip.
All in all you won't go wrong with any itinerary you choose IMO.
