The wife and I are going in late January and we have never been. Decided to try somewhere new but Im a little nervous. From what I have read the skiing is quality.

Overall, the skiing is good enough. Not a very challenging mountain, so if that is your jam you might be a little disappointed. However, a groomed golden eagle is glorious (although it is terrifying if you carve it), the stone creek chutes are fun, and ripsaw is one of my favorite groomers ever. That said, the grooming is top notch, the employees are pleasant, there are no lift lines, and, if you stay at the Osprey or the Park Hyatt or the Ritz, you truly have ski-in, ski-out.

The town itself is a little "corporate," but the dining is pretty top notch. While expensive, Beano's is a truly fantastic experience with the wife.

We are staying at the Westin Riverfront in Avon. Apparently there is gondola that takes you from the resort to the nearest lift. So not really a "ski in , ski out but close enough I assume. Yeah the skiing is my jam. I like the blacks and aggressive blues.

Love Beaver Creek, it’s where I learned to ride as my family went there every year for a long time. Larkspur and Rose Bowl are great runs as well. Very family friendly so if you need late night entertainment head 15 minutes down the road to Vail. Enjoy the escalators and 3pm cookies!

Book a dinner res one night at Vail's Game Creek Restaurant. It's high end, but very nice and very delicious. You take the gondola up from the base of the village on the front side, then the restaurant has a snow cat that takes you from the top of the gondola to the restaurant down a little bit in Game Creek bowl. Business casual dress is the attire there, although you may seem some casual. The views are spectacular. Catching sunset from the deck with a cocktail in hand while waiting to be sat is tough to beat.

BC has awesome Aspen tree stands if you like tree skiing. They aren't too tight like other tree areas. Aspen are thin tree trunks and usually space themselves further apart than evergreens.

The second time I ever tried skiing in my life, some a-hole friends of mine took me to the top of the birds of prey run.

Didn’t go well.

Just had dinner in beaver creek at the gorge mountain grill. Excellent food, little pricey (cheapest bottle of wine was $64). Would recommend if you want to splurge for an evening.

Eta: I love that they have guard houses to keep the riff raff out of beaver creek

It’s not “hard” as much as humbling knowing I’ll never have the balls to point and hold ‘em straight down that run like the pros do. Its where ability and reality meet.

The cookies at the Ritz are great. If you aren’t staying in the resort and need to drive in, Arrowhead gives you pretty easy access.

A lot of solid blacks and aggressive blues. Really, the only issue is no hike-to terrain or really steep-and-deep options.

We stayed there last Summer. The gondola to the mountain is a few steps out the front door...very easy.

There are several casual restaurants in the development around the Westin that are reasonable.

The Westin has 2 huge hot tubs on the back deck (more like 2 small heated pools) that have great views up the mountain.

Try doing it a couple days after the race when it hasn’t snowed. Better goin down in ice skates. It’s crazy how icy pros want the runs to be.

It's probably my favorite place to ski. It's pretty quiet since it's pretty far out from Denver and definitely one of the more elegant resorts.
