Staying there for the Auburn game next weekend. wondering if there's somewhere there to watch games/eat in Montgomery or if I should just stay in Auburn for that stuff.

Yeah-if you’re downtown, there are a couple decent spots-the bar at the rennaissance isnt a bad place to hang-but if you’re anywhere else, just hang in auburn.

South Montgomery is nice this time of the year. I suggest one of the nicer hotels on the southern boulevard. Tons of hotties can be seen around the interstate/southern boulevard exit. The T/A truck stop is known for it's entertainment value. If you venture north, be sure to check out the quaint neighborhood of Chisolm. See it before gentrification ruins it. Multi-cultural with several dialects and languages can be heard spoken.

There is a Pies and Pints near there as well. If you like beer and pizza, that would be a good spot.

They redeveloped an area around 10 years ago. I've been once. Pretty decent for Montgomery.

When I lived there in the 90's Montgomery was a shithole. Stay on the northern side of town. Anything near the Southside or Maxwell AFB is a dump.

Did you mean stay on the Eastside? Northern Montgomery runs from Maxwell thru downtown and into some pretty shitty industrial areas. You're correct about the Southside though. Avoid.

My list:

True - High-end. Steak was great, service attentive. Those who got the beets and smoked Brussels Sprouts raved about them. Fried chicken skin appetizer was worthy.

Central - Another high end, near the Renaissance Marriott. Steak was great.

Baumhower's - Sports Bar atmosphere, owned by former Auburn great. Great wings. Fried Banana pudding.

Renaissance Hotel - Typical Hotel Buffet, but the Sausage Gravy that accompanies the biscuits is worth being a dish all by itself.

There's also a Dreamland BBQ down by the river.

Baumhower played at Bama. But you're right about their wings. Very good.

Common Bond Brewery is pretty good and Aviator Bar is a good place to hang out downtown.

Downtown Montgomery has improved a ton.

If you like country music...Hank Willians Sr. is from Montgomery. There is a Hank Williams Sr. museum in the downtown area. It was very interesting...a lot of his personal items on display...his original hats and stage costumes, the original car that he died in...several TV monitors with videos of
his few recorded performances...many pictures with him and other famous people and dignitaries. He done so much musically speaking in his short life. He was 29 years old when he died. He's also buried in a cemetery in Montgomery...visiting his gravesite was interesting also.
