Thinking about a beach trip to South Padre Island, TX when all this corona crap is over. How are the beaches/sand compared to Florida?

Florida beaches are much nicer. All Texas beaches are brown from the sediment from the Mississippi river and the shallowness of the Gulf near Texas.

The water is clear on both n. & S. Padre Island.

Doesn’t appear so, at any distance, bc of the brown sand.

Oh, yeah, n. Padre Island, (Corpus Christi Beach, & Padre Island Nat’l Seashore), aren’t crowded.

SPI has decent water and sand. Rule of thumb in Texas is the further south the nicer the beaches.

It isn’t Florida but surprising for those who’ve never been. It was more fun when it was safer to cross the border, too.

Depends what you are wanting to do. If normal tourist stuff then SPI doesn't compare with FL beaches in anyway really. They are dirtier maybe a little less crowded at times but not much overall. If wanting to do an adventure trip then a trip down PINS (Padre National Seashore)out of Corpus is something you will not find in FL., a 65 mile stretch of uninhabited beach. Do your homework before you do the PINS trip if that is the route you choose.

Been to both many times. Live in DFW, so SPI is probably 3-4 hours closer to drive. That said, to me, it is still worth the longer ride and added expense to get to Florida, if I could only get the rest of my family to agree.

SPI serves the purpose if you simply want to do a few days on the beach and aren't expecting a lot of amenities and restaurant hopping.

The actual beach doesn't compare to FL in any way. The sand is brown and full of shells/rocks.

The people on the beach are trash. I wouldn't be caught dead on any Texas beach from Galveston to SPI.

True but don’t slam it too much more. Please let the native Texans who have never seen a real beach continue to think it’s great.

Most of the posts are true. Also, do not expect to eat lobster, they do not exist there. Fish and Shrimp.
Once nice thing, you can camp overnight on certain beaches
