Thanks for posting your trip

One of the fondest memories of my deceased wife was our trip to South Africa and doing safari and visiting the wineries

Your thread brought a tear to my eye, thanks again

I shoot with a DSLR in raw so I'm all set on that end.

I'll have to get Lightroom

I’m far from an expert it if you shot in raw, we can make some of those pics look a lot better with a minute of work in Lightroom. I’m not sure if you can email a photo due to size, but if you can send me one to wickowick@gmail and I will show you what you are missing not knowing Lightroom...

you shoulda went to Durban and then up to Rorke's Drift through Pietermaritzburg and helpmekaar. Maybe Ulundi also. Also, Kimberly, Ladysmith. Great history with Anglo-Zulu war and Boer wars. drakensberg Park is beautiful.

Of course, always something has to be missed unfortunately. Between not going and abbreviated I have to choose the latter.

My dad made me watch Zulu as a kid so all that stuff is interesting to me.

We did fly over Blyde River canyon so that was cool.

I ended up running the safari pics through LR's auto feature which did help. I'm sure there is more to do, though.

If you think more can be done I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks for posting. It was a lot of work so it's nice to see something consequential and important resulted from it. Sounds like a great memory to have. And someone willing to go on such a trip must have been a great person to have spent time with.

The auto feature is better than nothing, but when you take a photo, the colors look a certain way, and the photos doesn’t appear that way without some tweaking.

Ya, I'd be interested to see. I'll try to send a couple over after work if you're willing. Let me know if there are any you're interested in doing more than others

Thanks

All of these show lots of promise for Lightroom help. I am pretty sure you will have to email one at a time.

Cool, I'll send them over when I can. Funny enough two of those I didn't touch. Valley (very interested in how that will look) and the elephant (late edition last night).

The hippo was initially very dark.

You can shoot me an email and I can go through my normal process too. My goal is to try to make a photo look as real as possible, not over-processed. Some people like the super-HDR look, but I try to make it look how I remember. The camera isn't always able to process the lighting and colors exactly how they looked in real life. lsutigershark@gmail.com

Thanks, that's pretty cool.

I'm going to have to start practicing.

I need a new hobby anyways.

Details on email.

Might have to stick these into page 1 to look more impressive

Damn, that's an awesome trip. You seem to go on some of the more epic trips on this board. Great review too.

Thanks!

I try. There are a lot of places that are stable now that weren't in the past and may not be in the future, so I try to get to them in earnest.

Not to mention you can't visit these places with toddlers and stuff, so I'm saving places like most of Europe for that time.

I’m in Kruger right now!
First 1/2 day we saw a ton. 2 leopards, elephants, giraffes, zebra, kudu, etc.

Heading to Kapama River Lodge for a few days then on to Cape Town.

The face on my two 9 year olds are priceless when we something cool. Along with my son’s expert animal commentary!

Very nice, I hope you share some pics when you get back. You're in for a great trip, but I think you know that already.

I’m really glad I bought the sigma 150-600 lens. Makes all the difference. My wife is shooting with our other camera with a 70-300 and it’s just a bit too short to get close ups of the faces and far away leopards hanging out in trees (we saw four different ones today)

The best food I have ever had in my life was in Cape Town. My brother's wife is from Cape Town and they got married there in 2013. We were there for 2 weeks and out of the 13 nights we were there we ate at the same place 5 of those nights and we all got the same thing. Steak and Calamari. Cape Town was an amazing place but I want to go back and eat there again.
