South Africa votes to confiscate white-owned land without compensation

quote:

SOUTH Africa’s parliament has voted in favour of a motion that will begin the process of amending the country’s Constitution to allow for the confiscation of white-owned land without compensation. The motion was brought by Julius Malema, leader of the radical Marxist opposition party the Economic Freedom Fighters, and passed overwhelmingly by 241 votes to 83 against. The only parties who did not support the motion were the Democratic Alliance, Freedom Front Plus, Cope and the African Christian Democratic Party.
quote:

Mr Malema has been leading calls for land confiscation, forcing the ANC to follow suit out of fear of losing the support of poorer black voters.
In 2016, he told supporters he was “not calling for the slaughter of white people‚ at least for now”.

I'm well aware of that story.

I also know one guy doesn't make the whole story, but can certainly get things going. The ANC certainly has egalitarian tendencies.

Tourism is a huge part of their economy. Money talks and bullshite walks. I suspect though some parties will try to see how far they can get with it.

SA wouldn't be the first country to self destruct though. Also this discussion may derail this thread. I think it's been adequately noted for those considering traveling there.

I can definitely say the parts I saw ran a lot better than India or Cambodia

Did you consider a cage dive with great whites? My 2 bucket list goals for a trip to SA would be a shark dive and photo safari

We certainly did. However, the best spot to do it, Gansbaai is about 2 hours from Cape Town. It also takes I believe a solid 6 hours or more of your day on its own, then you have the drive back. It just wasn't doable with the time we had and working with a group. I'm not too sad about it really, though it would have been really cool.

I have just updated the third post with our last days in Cape Town. Safari porn is incoming this week.

I wish I had seen this prior to tonight. We were in Cape Town last April for a week and there was a coffee shop/classic car showroom that was awesome. Dapper Coffee Co
I suck at adding photos, but this was a great spot for breakfast. My girlfriend and I want to go back badly

That's a pretty cool spot man.

Ya, I'm already back and I didn't post too much on the board asking for advice, though I do blame you for not posting about your trip! I could have read about it in the sticky.

Holy shitballs. You have set the new bar.

Awesome review, will add to sticky in the morning.

Can you add “TRIP REVIEW” in the thread title?

Nice

Sorry it's taking me so long but loading all the pics takes forever between picking good ones, converting to JPEG so IMGUR can host it, etc. Plus I can only ignore my wife and dogs for so long.

Are they showing up now? They show up on Preview and everything. Let me know. I logged out of my account and they still showed for me.

I have hippos, giraffes, elephants, all kinds of stuff to upload but it is bed time for now.

BTW using the free trial of Lightroom. I'm mostly using their Auto feature to help me out and get these posted, but once this is done I'm going to mess with the software a bit to see what it can do. I think it is really helping though. Thanks again.

Just loaded a bunch more.

not me. My friend's wife actually had the same thing happen in Tanzania last year. They didn't freak out at all but of course everybody stayed pretty chill, except for the driver who stood up and was face to face with the cheetah. It was actually two that jumped onto the edge of the popup/sunroof.
