Got about 4 days between these two worth of sightseeing with Mrs jkyle and two teenage stepsons (15&17). The bulk of our trip is in Positano and we are already lined out there for La Sponda, La Tagliata, and a cooking class . Looking for some really good authentic Italian food in Florence and Rome . Also some good lunch spots. I don’t really care about high end for these just good food. Anything you know about that you’d recommend? Thanks in advance and happy travels this summer

Also on a side note… has anyone ever gotten colosseum tickets through the official website before?. I know they open up availability 30 days out at 830ish Am Rome time but didn’t know if anyone had ever meddled with this. I’ve heard it’s a bit of a shite show but substantially cheaper than booking through viator.

Hostaria Costanza in Rome.

Natalino in Florence.

La Sponda will probably be the culinary highlight of your trip.

If I’m not mistaken I think you’re the one who gave me that rec a while back. I showed it to my wife and she was sold immediately. She’s been on my arse for months to make sure I didn’t miss out on the day the reservations released. Looking forward to it all very much. Never been to Italy at all.

Another good looking place. Steak looks legit. I’ve heard Florence is known for good beef ?

My wife (who is an expert on such things) rates it the most romantic restaurant she has ever been to. Lit with 400 candles. Try to sit by the window overlooking the town and the Med.
The adjoining bar has the same view and you can sit outside on the terrace.

This place was fantastic

Trattoria Vecchia Roma

LINK

We did all the major attractions by just walking up to it. People all over selling tickets.

Trattoria Sostanza in Florence. The buttered chicken is what they’re known for.

L’osteria on via de neiri in Florence is my fave florentine steak. Desiree is an absolute sweetheart of a server and we visit with her each time we go. She has met new family members on each visit. Give her a hello and a big hug from me.

Pazkwoski’s in Florence (I am not looking up how to spell) it is a good night out. Go late with your wife. I like their dirty martinis and a glass of wine. It’s pretty good for apperetivo but we enjoyed the music and late night there.

In Rome..Aroma at night overlooking the lit colosseum is breathtaking and the food and whole experience is something I’ll never forget. Reservations are needed. I wouldn’t bring my spoiled foodie teen though. I had to wait until I was 42 ish and she should as well.

Don’t go to places with menus posted and pictures where they try to get you inside and expect much. It’s fine to fill up there and people watch but those are not your best bets.

Thanks a lot. Reservation made for 8pm on the 23rd. Will request Desiree. Who shall I tell her the hug is coming from. That florentine steak looks divine.

That actually works out great bc I just mapped it from my Airbnb and it’s exactly 1 km from our place. I can just walk to dinner. That’ll be our first night in Italy.

100% this. The butter chicken is amazing. Bone in with skin chicken breast cooked over a wood fire in garlic and butter. Crazy good for how simple the dish is. You have to call for reservations. It's always packed.

I can email you if you'd really like to know my name, but I am not sure that she'd remember it.

On our most recent trip with a new family group this past November she kept walking by and kinda watching me. Finally I stood up and called her name and she came over to grab me for a long hug. We were nearly in tears talking. She remembered every visit since 2022 with my then 14 year old daughter. She remembered the subsequent 2023 couples trip and our husbands, where we sat and what we ate. We ate there 3-4 times over a week in Florence. We stayed next door at Kairo's apartments (recommend) so it was really convenient. During the couples trip we ate and drank so much there the owner/manager would come and sit with us. They loved that we tried everything, ordered 3-4 bottles of wine (whites and red) plus cocktails and tons of food then desserts to take home.

Also since your AIRBNB is near ... gelato dei neiri across the street is one of the top spots and there are two al antico vinaio sandwich shops on that street. Honestly I steered clear from those and went to one near L'osteria walking towards the arno river. It was amazeballs. Al antico gets a reputation from social media, but the line is not worth the hype and I find them to be stingy.

Send me your email if you want to know more. I came to TD travel for advice for our first ever Italy trip in 2022 and have learned so much since then in 3 more trips. Can't wait to go back.
