Example:

Flight from PHL to Dublin in July is currently showing $511

However I clicked on the rate and it shows me starting at Philly Train Station (30th Street Station) to Newark's airport for the flight to Dublin and likewise on the way back.

What are the potential consequences for skipping the train parts and just driving to Newark myself for the flight? Will they not let me check in to the gate because I technically "no showed" the train?

You must take the train there, you could skip the train on the way back. It'd count as missing a segment unfortunately unless theres weather delays

The only good news is that if you book it and theres a schedule change, you could likely have them drop the amtrak segments and go direct from EWR. Thatd be an excellent deal for $500 imo

I think it shows as ZFV (30th Street Station) on United's website. When i lived in philly i contemplated using that code all the time. It's usually a direct flight from newark but a train segment at the beginning or end

United has some weird arrangements from nearby airports to Newark.

The train from Philly being one and a bus ride from Allentown, PA. They used to have helicopter service from Manhattan. All coded as flights…

So what airports are these? I ask because I have some cheap flights to limited northeastern airports directly and I may be able to work some flights out of there with this?

ETA: How far is the philly train station to the philly airport? I'm assuming this only works for flying out of Philly, and not into philly and abroad?

So from philly you take the train to newark and depart?

But you wouldn't fly into philly, go to the train station, train to newark, then depart?

ABE (Allentown) to/from EWR is bus service. If you're going to/through EWR, you go to ABE United ticket counter as if you're boarding a flight, get your ticket, check your bags, and hop on out front. Going to EWR, you're dropped off landside and have to clear security. From EWR you're assigned a gate and board the bus airside. You get FF/mile credit for the "bus flight".

Yep.

Philly 30th St. Station (ZFV) is similar but checked baggage is not handled by Amtrak. Train station is downtown and you board the train and get off at EWR station then drop your bags at EWR ticket counter. On the return, your bags are only tagged to EWR. I've never booked this, but the benefit is to attract travelers to United who deem EWR too far to drive, but would be connecting to international or other destintations. I'm sure Amtrak and United have priced in some discount for the train for booking together. You do get miles/ff credit for the train rides.

They also "codeshare" train trips to/from EWR from Samford, CT (ZTF), New Haven, CT (ZVE), and Wilmington, DE (ZWI).

Correct.
