Will be going to this place very soon.

I'm interested in this as well. Seems to
Me that a shitload of resorts have opened there over the last five years. They must be offering some nice incentives and such to get so many companies interested in building there.

Never been, but some friends of ours went couple months ago and seemed to like it.
However.....they did all come back really sick with this Caribbean illness called Chikungunya. It's transmitted by mosquitos. They are fine now(virus resolves within a few weeks), but were sick towards the end of their trip and for another week or so after they got home (high fevers, joint pain, headache, chills, and just feeling very weak).
So I would just take some precautions to avoid mosquitos if possible. You can look on the CDC website for more information.

We stayed at the Paradisus Palma Real a few years ago in June. It is an amazing resort, everything was very nice, and very well taken care of. The resorts were nice, the actual city is sketchy. Being off the property was a little uncomfortable, and we are well traveled. So...make sure you pick a nice resort.
The resort was about 20% occupied when we went in June. The staff explained that most of the visitors to the DR are Canadian, and they return home for the Summer. I loved it, but it was not an action packed, exciting vacation. There were a lot of times that our family was the ONLY people in the enormous pool, or we were always far enough away from other people on the beach that we could not hear them talking. Only letting you know what to expect.

The OT rarely disappoints. I got on the travel board to see if there are any mentions on Punta Cana and Yahtzee - here we go.
Keep the comments coming. Best resorts? Excursions? Restaurants? Do's and Dont's

Not sure if this is a joke or not but I will bite
I have been there many many times over the past 15 years.
Lots of very good resorts for good pricing. Punta Cana is a great place to go and unwind if you want to relax and just take it easy. If you are looking to travel around and "see the sights, go somewhere else.
The best resort we have stayed at is The Grand Bavaro. It is a Iberostar resort and it adult only. One of the highest rated resorts on the island. Very nice, good food, top shelf drinks, a little more middle aged crowd. Not crowded. Been there 5 times and will be going back next year. The service at this resort is the best of any resort I have ever been to. These people made us feel like we were home everytime we have been there. Some of our trips here have been for 14 days and we never got tired of it.
Excellence would be my second choice. Very nice and very compatible to The Grand Bavaro but it is on the north west end of Punta Cana and the surf is pretty strong there. If you want to get in the ocean and have some calm water, forget about it. Everything else is very nice. The resort has good food, drinks and entertainment. Plus they have fantastic recreational stuff. Gym, outdoor clay tennis courts, etc.
The Bavaro. This is also a Iberostar resort but its a little cheaper an not adult only. Lots of kids but plenty of younger people. Low cost would be its biggest benefit.
Hard Rock - Nice place, younger crowd, lots of partying. Food not as good as the top two on my list but the booze was good. Just too crowded for me.
Secrets Royal Beach - Nice place. Rooms were excellent but the service was lacking when we were there. We typically go in August, fits our schedule better, and the resort was about half full. They really cut down on the service when its not full. Not cool...
We have visited a few smaller resorts but those are the best we have used. We also visited the Paradisus and it was fun. Just very crowded.
Let me now if you have any more questions. Be glad to answer.

I have never had this in my 12 times to Punta Cana. Not a soul who has ever been with us had it or have I ever had a person tell me they had it who I know. Weird that everyone you know had it. Any idea where they were staying when they got it.

Intersting. That is right down the beach from where we stay. I have ran by there early in the morning. To be honest, in all my times there, I have never had any issues with bugs at all.

My sister's at the Excellence all inclusive now and her snapchats make the resort look really nice. There's a lazy river that goes around and her room is right off of it, outdoor tub for the room, 15 min massage, $200 resort credit and mimosas were included in her package (want to say $1600 for 5 nights)
It's $298-$400 roundtrip on Copa, Delta, American, etc all the way through November

Southwest has some deals for late August right now.
Google flights is showing $298 round trip for the last week in August on Copa. My buddy at work is headed down there in a couple weeks.
eta: yeah what he said.

No, that one has a 1:35 layover in Panama City. The return looks sketchy but you can get the same 1:35 for about another $100 on the way back.
ETa: come back on a Friday and you will be golden both ways.

Thanks..I'm actually not looking t go until next September/October. They just announced a half ironman there on October 1 so starting to see what the total cost would be....a week at Excellence is right about $2000, plus say $1000 in airfare (for two) and thats not bad at all

When are you going? I just arrived at the Hard Rock today. Have not really had a chance to check it out but it is huge. Water is clean but a little bit rough.

I'm heading down there at the end of July. I hope to do some fishing a couple of the days that I'm there. Can anyone recommend a charter? It will be just me.
