Portland, ME review.

Wife and I spent 3 days here during the first weekend of May. Has always been a bucket list trip for me due to food, beer, weather and scenery. Aside from rain on Friday night, everything was perfect. Something I did not realize was that this was the first weekend a lot of places opened back up for the summer season, so we got lucky in that regard. We stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn Waterfront on Commercial St. It was a great home base that allowed us to walk to many different restaurants and bars. The hotel bar also had Maine Lunch on draft
Eventide Oyster Co - This place was packed each and every time we passed it. They do not take reservations, FYI. Nice selection of local beers and raw oysters. The brown butter lobster roll lived up to the hype! It's hard to compare to other rolls because it's so different, but it's so damn good.
Central Provisions - We came here 2x, once for drinks and once for brunch. We sat downstairs for drinks and upstairs for food. They had a really neat menu. WIsh I could have tried more things. Pictured is the Breakfast Cornbread skillet.
Bite Into Maine Food Truck - Best lobster roll I had in Portland! Ate here twice, once at Allagash and once at Portland Head Light. Get it picnic style - you'll thank me later.
HIgh Roller Lobster Co - The ultimate late night snack since it was close to our hotel. Really, really good lobster roll.
Honeypaw - Nice change of pace after eating lobster rolls and seafood. There were tons of things on the menu that I wanted to try, but I ended up going with one of the specials. Pictured is short rib Bibimbap.
Portland Lobster Co - Nice place right on the waterfront. We went on Saturday night for live music. It got super crowded, but we were lucky and found a table right by the band/bar. It was a fun place to hang for a couple of hours. And I randomly met a guy here who was from Doyline! I was disappointed with the lobster roll here.
Maine Beer Co - They have always been one of my favorite breweries. I seek their stuff any chance I get, so I was pretty excited to be able to visit the new taproom. It's super nice. About a 20ish minute Uber ride from Portland.
Allagash - This is one of the places that you HAVE to visit in Portland, in my opinion. Such a cool place with awesome beer. Think I tried just about everything they had on tap. Definitely had a Sunday funday. Plus, Bite Into Maine food truck is on site.
J's Oyster - Had no plans of eating here, but we ended up going based on recommendations of several locals that we talked to. It's kind of a dive, but we were impressed with the food. One of my favorite things I ate on the trip was their Seafood Casserole - pure sin with every bite.
Lighthouses - We rented bikes and did a lighthouse tour. It was around 14 miles round trip and took about 3.5 hours to complete. We stopped at Bug Light and Portland Head. We got to see a lot of Portland (especially South Portland) that we likely wouldn't have seen otherwise.
We also ate at Duckfat for lunch and had brunch at Terlingua. And Austin Street was another brewery we visited. Tomaso's Canteen is a small bar near Eventide, Honeypaw and Duckfat that was highly recommended by locals - bunch of draft beer and 16oz cans.
Great trip overall! Hope to make it back one day, but I will be taking a different mode of transportation besides Frontier Airlines - thanks for that 7+ hour delay on the way home.

Those lobster rolls look good; better than any we had last year.
Nice report.

I have been there 3 times and never seen as much of Portland proper as you have. Looks like the only place you might have missed was Novara Res which has a great variety of beers: LINK
Really nice surrounding areas include Bath, Freeport, Damariscotta, Wells, Kennebunkport and Portsmouth, NH.

We are going back in October. If you could pick one or two of best spots to drive up the coast to as a day trip, which would they be ?

Bath is a special place. It is quaint and seems like time stopped a long time ago when you are there. You can drive to Popham Beach from there very easily and it is very nice.

Excellent review and even better timing! We are headed there for a week on the 18th.
Hitting a lot of the spots you mentioned...

Fore Street is fantastic if you haven’t been. Really great food.

Also will hit Bissell Bros as much as possible

Never heard of Novara - will have to put it on the list for next time. I really wanted to visit Kennebunkport and Bath, but we just didn’t have the time. Needed a few extra days to truly do/see everything that I wanted. Since we didn’t have a car, staying mostly in Portland was most efficient for us.

I’m still upset that I didn’t make it to Bissell. Drink one for me!!

I've never eaten anywhere but Eventide in my visits to Portland. We want to branch out - but it's so damned good.
OP, did you make it to Holy Donut?

Check out Lincoln’s bar...if you can find it.
