Philadelphia - Where to stay (not stay), Things to see, do, eat, drink

I will be in Philadelphia for a week with my family. We are going up for the Saints game and will be staying the entire week for Thanksgiving.
We want to get an Airbnb, but I am unsure as to what neighborhoods we should stay in -- or not stay in.
Aside from the game, what are some sights to see, places to eat and drink, etc. I'd obviously like to get an authentic cheesesteak.
Honestly, any help, tips, and pointers will be appreciated.
ETA: Should I be worried about wearing Saints memorabilia? All jokes aside, this is arguably the one venue that has me somewhat uneasy.

I’ve been to both Pat’s and Geno’s. Couldn’t tell a real difference.
Do go to Chickie’s and Pete’s and get the crab fries. Very good.

For an airbnb I would look in Fitler Square/Rittenhouse.
You would also be fine in Old City, Society Hill, Queen Village, Northern Liberties and Fishtown, Spring Garden and Fairmount.
You will be fine in Saints gear assuming you act like a mature adult and not a drunken idiot heckling people.
The food scene here is really good.

quote:We took the grandkids to the Natural History museum about 6 years ago. I think it is The Academy of Natural Science and it is near Logan Square. We had gone to DC for that museum but that was the summer they closed it for a five year renovation. We didn't know that till we got there so we took a day trip to Philly.
Honestly, any help, tips, and pointers will be appreciated.
[/img] They have more than dinosaurs.
There is an old, closed, prison near the museum that might be interesting to tour. It is the Eastern State Penitentiary.
We ate at Tony Luke's cause we had seen it on TV; travel or food network I guess. Just a sandwich but it was good.

If you are in lowers with kids, you should be fine in Saints gear as long as you aren't talking shite. Uppers without kids... good luck lol.
If you want to stay in center city Rittenhouse Square area is my favorite. Tons of good food and drink around you. Safe area. If you want history go to the other side near old city.
The franklin institute is a must do. I don't know how old your kids are, but the Mutter Museum is cool if you like some weird medical stuff. The mint is pretty good and over by the liberty bell.
Reading terminal for a Dinics pork sandwich with broccoli rabe and sharp provolone. Get some ice cream while there from Bassetts. Butcher Bar is a great place to get good food and whiskey. Time is a great bar. One side is a whiskey bar other side is almost a jazz bar. Upstairs if you want to get freaky in a absinth bar. The Dandelion is a great place to get an English style breakfast around rittenhouse.
