Traveling to Europe for the first time next month and spending four days in London followed by four days in Paris. Saw the recent thread about London but wanted to get some suggestions for Paris.
Will be traveling solo and staying in the 6th arrondisment. Please share any tips or food and drink recommendations. Thanks in advance.

We are going next week and are also staying in the 6th. for part of the time. The best meal I have ever had in my life was at Guy Savoy which recently moved to a new location in the 6th. It is a Michelin 3 star and is super expensive at night, but they have lunch specials. You have to request the lunch special when you make your reservation. My other favorite upscale restaurant in the 6th is Allard. Fish La Boissonnerie is a more casual bistro on rue de Seine. Since you are going solo you may want to check out L'Avant Comptoir near the Odedon. It is a casual stand up wine bar with very good food. If the weather is nice, get a take out order there and eat it in the nearby Luxumbourg Gardens. For dessert get pastries or macarons from Pierre Herme on Place St. Sulpice. Les Papeilles is a small casual place near the Lux. Gardens. Le Deux Magots is an atmospheric sidewalk cafes for drinks and people watching, as is La Pallette. I could go on and on and the 6th is far from my favorite neighborhood for restaurants. My two favorite restaurant rows in Paris are rue St. Dominique and the area around the Palais Royal.

I loved that place. I recommend it to everyone who asks me for suggestions and so far only one friend has ever listened to me and gone. He raves about the place now. I think he said they added chairs though if I remember correctly

It’s been almost a decade since I’ve been in Paris, so my recs are stale (however look into the Bisteonomy movement). I would also recommend you take a look if you are instagram enabled at a feed called Paris Is My Kitchen. She highlights great up and coming spots and well established gems and she also organizes food tours.

It’s been a while since I’ve gone to Paris but once you’re done with the must-see things, you might want to go see the stained glass windows in the second floor of Ste. Chapelle. I don’t hear that in many recommendations and I thought that they were impressive.

The 6th has some decent eating spots, esp if you're solo.
--L'avant Comptoir, as mentioned, or L'avant Comptoir de Mer (next door), or the L'avant Comptoir de la Marche (a couple blocks away)....all are tapas-style small plates suitable for grazing. The Marche one has seats, the other two are more stand-up.
--Le Comptoir de Relais, also by Yves Camdeborde, is a cafe (and the source of the joke name of the tapas bar next door, "After the Comptoir". It has a bunch of sidewalk tables, a few tables inside, and a basic but delicious menu. I had a killer pork terrine there in late '17...they brought me the whole crockery loaf pan and pretty much let me eat as much as I wanted.
--Saigon d'Antan, a smallish vietnamese restaurant on Rue Monsieur le Prince. Sometimes you need a bowl of pho or some spring rolls to counteract the croissants and other heavy food.
--Creperie Little Breizh: breton style buckwheat crepes & cider, what's not to like? Near Odeon.
The 6th has good pastry shops: Pierre Herme has a shop on Rue Bonaparte, Eric Kayser has a shop on Rue Mazarine (with limited seating), Maison Mulot on Rue de Seine or Arnaud Larher just down the street....
A fun, only in Paris shopping stop is La Grande Epicerie on Rue de Sevres. It is a department store of food, with all kinds of high end ingredients. Can be a good place to buy edible souvenirs, like sea salt, spices, etc.

I didn't plan on it but I accidentally ran into Mass when I was in Notre Dame. Didn't even realize it was Sunday evening. That was my favorite moment in Paris and was one of the most beautiful experience in my life. Words can't describe.

quote:I'd second this recommendation. Was in Paris last summer and went to the Sainte-Chapelle. We went in the early afternoon when the sun was shining through and it was by far the most beautiful stain glass work I have ever seen. It is right around the corner from Notre Dame. I believe it is 10 euros to get in, but it is well worth it. Back across the river from Sainte-Chapelle and Notre Dame(to the right of Notre Dame if you are looking at it) there is a nice shopping area with plenty of little places to eat. I can't remember the name of the place, but I got a 3 course meal on a set menu for 17 euros.

I second Allard. The apple tarte there is unbelievably delicious. One of our favorite restaurants in Paris.
