Newark is typically the most expensive and is a shitty airport. I go back and forth between JFK and LaGuardia but there's not a ton of difference IMO. You can find a taxi into the city from either. LaGuardia is a little closer but sometimes it's easier coming from the South.

As everyone keeps suggesting, I'd go without using orbitz or expedia (book the flights and hotel separately).

Now, I know you pretty much only want flights from LFT for your NYC trip but if you're willing to drive down to New Orleans, for July 13-18 it's $284 MSY-EWR. If you could do July 13-19 it's $246 roundtrip on Delta per person.

Cuse thanks a bunch. Not sure I want to drive three hours there or back ..

I'm seeing no "deals" between early June and late August. I'm sure it's to be expected. Should I just gamble and book? Today it's $407 per ticket. Guess it's not awful and I don't want to drive to Nola or sleep in a hotel for a real early flight ... That defeats the cheaper Nola price.

Thanks and yeah for a travel board. I'll live vicariously through everyone else!!

I'd keep holding off if you're not interested in the flights from New Orleans. They'll show up eventually, just give it time. The flight times I'm finding actually are not bad, leave New Orleans at 11am on the 13th get to newark at 7pm, leave newark at 1pm on the 19th and get back to new orleans at 5:30pm

We took some shuttle bus from LGA into Manhattan. It was fairly cheap, like $10 a person. It had drop-offs at Grand Central and several other places. We just figured out which stop was the shortest walk to our hotel and got off there. Ended up sitting behind this girl from Alabama who had been on our flight, and had lived there previously. Going back to visit friends, and she told us several places to check out. The flight was considerably cheaper flying into LGA, so it was worth the 30 minute bus trip into town. We took a car service from the hotel back to the airport. Not sure if that was a Hilton Honors perk or not, but I didn't pay for it either.

Out of Lafayette I can be in NYC at 1 and have a whole half day ... Leave at 330 so we'd have the morning. It's almost like having an extra day.

I'll sit tight. Thanks again!! Much appreciated.

I'd recommend taking a car service. I have been taking my 7 year old daughter to NYC, sometimes alone, since she was a baby. I have used both nycity limo and Carmel. Carmel has terrible reviews right now so maybe try another. It's better to pay a price comparable or cheaper than a taxi and have a car waiting for you and your daughter. 400 out of Lft isn't too bad. I am so used to paying 500 to go anywhere out of Lft, but if cuse says wait then I'd listen to him/her. I prefer LGA over EWR and I only like JFK if we are on JetBlue...which going to MSY for JetBlue is almost worth the drive from Lafayette area.

I've flown into JFK and LGA and really couldn't tell a huge difference as far as the airport went. Having a car there specifically for you is really nice though...I'd try to book one of those. We did that and booked them to take us back to the airport as we left...that was very convenient!

Jfk and ewr have train access to manhattan. Lga has smaller airspace and is more prone to delays. Ewr is a bit more $$$ taxi into Manhattan. All 3 are $45 min and 45min depending where you are going. On a normal day lga would be the quickest taxi ride to/from Manhattan.

We stayed in Manhattan, at the Belvedere. Flew into LGA and out of JFK. Booked through expedia no issues. We went in Dec of '14 for the Christmas tree lighting.

JetBlue has direct flights from New Orleans to JFK, and they're pretty cheap.

There's an early flight and late flight. Consider driving and spending the night at the Hilton and taking JetBlue.

Also, sign up for the rewards program of whatever hotel brand you're staying at (Marriott Rewards, Hilton Honors, etc.) for the trip, before you book.

A few nights in Manhattan will get you a pretty good ways toward a free night somewhere else.

Which car service did you use? My wife used Dial7 in January and had a bad experience (driver was late, bad english, shitty car, etc).
