Looking for a family friendly/ not overcrowded destination for summer beach trip. Done 30A several times but I feel like it’s over priced and an extra 1-1.5 hours in the car. Anyone been to Navarre recently? Wondering if this would be a good spot but I haven’t been since early 2000s. Are there enough restaurants? Trying to avoid 4 rows deep of beach chairs and excessive white trash exposure for the youngings ages 5 & 3

We stay in navarre every year when we go to the beach. We love it but there are only like 2 restaurants on the island itself. Everything else is across the bridge.

If you stay in condos I would suggest summerwind or others that are close to the pier as afternoon traffic further down can be brutal. Like 20 minutes to go 2 miles.

Usually at the busiest times you have about 2 rows of chair setups. We mostly go right after memorial day most years. But I'll actually be there Sunday with our son and a friend since the wife and I are going to Mexico this summer.

Perdido Key seems much more laid back than Gulf Shores/Orange Beach. We always stay in the smaller condos vs the high rises.

We hated Navarre because of the afternoon traffic.....we always like to go to dinner at night and it was a beat down getting across that bridge every day.

Haven't been to Perdido Key in a few years but it fits the bill. Look up Ocean Breeze East which had empty lots to the west of it so not crowded at all. Actually Ocean Breeze West was similar, with empty lots to the east of it. Not sure if they are nice enough for you. East was starting to need some remodeling last time we were there. Still close enough to Orange Beach that the dining choices were endless.

There is the Marriot Restaurant, Windjammers, and Juana’s all within walking distance if you stay by the pier. No need to drive anywhere unless you are looking for a 5 star restaurant.

Thanks for all feedback. Is the traffic a problem during spring and fall also or is that just a summer issue?

We go to Navarre every year. Love it. We have a huge section of the beach to ourselves. We combine a couple of house next to each other and have about 30 family members. True that if you like to eat out, you’d be disappointed. We bring our boil setup and fry setup and cook every night. Perfect for us.

I'll let you know next week. I usually only go in summer and usually stay in summerwind. 2 summers ago is when I realized how bad it was just because we stayed further down basically by the hotel.

Used to love the Holidome wasn’t it one where you could swim from inside to outside? Great arcade. It’s only been about 40 years. Didn’t one of the Hurricanes do it in?

Love Navarre for a more secluded beach experience. You can also hit the marine beach and/or opal beach area a bit west of the main beach for less folks as well.

I personally feel the entire gulf coast is overpriced and only some more than others more Navarre is priced pretty adequately I think. With kids 5 and 3 how often do you plan to go out to eat?

It has less options as far as entertainment, dining, etc but thats why you pay less. It's designed more for people to enjoy the beach, their condo pool, eat more in their condo and not put up with the crowds and traffic that come with "water parks", laser tag, indoor dark light mini golf, outlet malls, one crappy seafood restaurant after another and too many t-shirt shops.

Used to like it but now it’s overrun with loud, obnoxious and multi tattooed litterers. Traffic is horrendous on the island and the main road (Air Base Traffic). Nothing to do. Restaurants suck. Prices for condo’s and houses tripled in last 10 years. Angry old people if you put a tent up or take their precious spots. People fighting for space at 5am. You are better off going to Gulf Shores for the same experience with more options and closer with LOTS to do for kids and families.

Holidome has been gone for may years.

True. We seldom go out to eat. Personally I got tired of eating the same frozen seafood I can get up here in Miz at 10x the price. It boggles my mind how I can be sitting at a table looking at the dang Gulf and be eating something that didn't come from it.

Me and my friends from college always rent a house in Navarre every summer. We love it, once we make our intial grocery run we don't really cross the bridge during our stay.

Seems like just a summer issue. I’ve left every night around 5 and while there is traffic it’s not backed up all the way down gulf Blvd. They installed a new light at the corner by the Tom Thumb so maybe that’s helped.
