Has anyone hiked to the summit? If so, any tips?

Check 14ers.com to see current conditions, the melt off is very late this year and I don’t know how many peaks will be snow free before late July.

Elbert isn’t too bad, lot of miles if you’re coming from twin lakes but nothing that’s technically difficult.

I’ve done it. Fairly easy day hike. Leave early in the morning to avoid afternoon storms

ETA: check out Massive too

I did it. Slept on the side of the mountain about 1/3 of way up. Started the ascent the next morning at like 5ish or so. Above tree line for sunrise. Peaked at like 8/8:30 it’s pretty much just a long walk. Start super early or accept you’ll be walking in a line of people all the way up. It was super crowded last August.

I did same thing. Hung my hammock in the last trees at tree line. Great sunrise. Fun walk.

Do you think you can disperse camp?

I did. Just bring water. It was a fire ban at the time so no fire.

It's an easy hike. Like all hikes above treeline, it's preferable to be on your way down by noon just to avoid any afternoon storms that my pop up, because they do happen quickly. You don't want to be the tallest thing standing when it starts to lightning, or hail.

I enjoy catching sunrises from summits.

Elevation definitely kicked this coonass’s butt and then Massive just shot the rest of it to hell. Great area though.

Y’all ever make it out to the old logging mill on the other side of Massive? I forget the name.
