So heading to London for a few days then Dublin, Ireland for a few days. Wondering if there are some MUST DO things while I'm there and some things I should totally avoid. Maybe visit Stonehenge? Prob going on a pub crawl and whiskey tour while in Dublin. Anyone with any input would be greatly appreciated.

How long in London and what do you really like to do?

London has an incredibly variety of things to do. Most of the museums are free and you can spend an hour or so each day at a variety of them (British museum for all the stuff the British Empire took deposit of), Tate Modern for Modern Art, Portrait and Landscape museum, etc...

Great restaurants in London as well. Not sure there is anything must do in London because there is so much to do.

The Tower of London is a great place to spend some time.

If I were short on time and a first visit, this for sure. Some good walking and sight-seeing all around there too.

It sounds corny, but a good way to start a visit is to get on one of the red double-decker tour buses that makes a big circuit through town and has a guide narrate the sites along the way.

They aren't cheap, but they are a good way to get a look at all the major sites (in case you don't get time to go to each individually) and get the lay of the land.

I've been to London 4 or 5 times, and I've never been to Stonhenge. It takes too much time for something I have little interest in, when there are so many better things to see and do in and around London.

The regular city buses don't have a guide, of course, but they are also a cheap way to get around and see some sites without pounding the pavement. Find a route or two that passes several tourist sites. Use your Oyster card to swipe when you get on; it charges you a couple bucks or so to ride as long as you want.

Check the "open to the public" schedule for Westminster Abbey when you get there and plan your visit. They sometimes close for special events, and around Christmas could get you burned on that. Don't trust the website. Call or go by and read the sign.

Go see a play while in town. Book of Mormon is awesome.

You can buy from a million places online or at hotels. If you’re gonna be there a few days, just go to the theater a few days ahead and see what they have.

We sat on literally the top row, cheap as hell, and it was great. We also went to The Bodyguard and sat in the middle. It was fine. There are few bad seats.

Even if you aren’t a theater fan, you’ll probably enjoy it. Top notch productions.

As everyone in the post has said, it really depends on what you want to do.

I would agree with Tower of London/Tower Bridge being at the top of the list. It houses the Crown Jewels, as well as being one of the most historic places in the city.

For Museums, you really can't go wrong with the British Museum, though I really enjoyed the Victoria & Albert Museum in Westminster.

With Art Museums, I thoroughly enjoyed the National Gallery, and went to the Tate Modern and would recommend it if Modern art is your thing.

Both Westminster Abbey and St. Pauls are breathtaking but you should check to see if anything is going on.

Can't speak to London, but went to Dublin last December and had a blast. If you don't already have accommodations, would recommend getting an airBnb over a hotel.

Things to do:

National Museum of Ireland - Archaeology

Trinity College - Book of Kells

St. Stephen's Green

Guinness Tour is worth it for the Gravity Bar alone

Do A tasting tour at the Irish Whisky Museum

Kilmainham Gaol jail

Walk around the Temple Bar area, including a few pints at Temple Bar itself. It's the Irish Pat O's.

Eat dinner at the Blind Pig Speakeasy LINK

Shop on Grafton St.

If you have the time, go to Newgrange. It's a Neotlithic structure, older than Stonehenge and the pyramids. Really amazing place. It's about an hour north of Dublin by car. Additionally, there are tours that can take you to Cork and Blarney Castle, but if you had to choose one I would go to Newgrange.

Dublin is amazing. The people are so inviting, it honestly feels like a southern town full of folks with funny accents. You'll love it.
