Truckee is an awesome spot with a lot of recreational stuff to do. Easy drive to ski resorts and to North Lake Tahoe.

My sister lives there and owns Mountain Freak Boutique on the Main strip. Stop in and grab a Truckee Shirt.

I will be there in September for her mountain wedding.

I'm out here right now in South Lake and just saw Dennis Rodman LOL. Hitting Emerald Bay in the morning, this place is really, really beautiful.

Are the restaurants still open? I just read that the Governor just shut restaurants down in Cali??

Indoors are closed per the order.

Thankfully a lot of restaurants appear to have outdoor seating.

However, who knows if they will stay open with that limitation or if they will be hard to eat at.

Not sure if anyone on the board was there during previous shutdown.

Any ideas if the gondola and roller coaster is open? We will be in town soon and were disappointed with the news today. Hoping our trip isn't screwed.

Guy at hotel said restaurants around the city have lots of outdoor seating.

Also, I am assuming shorts and a t shirt/polo is all that is needed during the day for hiking, walking, touring, etc?

It's weird out here right now. We went to the Hangar which is an outdoor bar and it's open. We went to AleWorx which was outdoor and it was open. I tried to get some food from the oyster bar in Hard Rock (Nevada side) and the line was backed up halfway through the casino. I ended up having to order asian through door dash for dinner because it's so hard to find a place where you get a togo order.

The place we are staying has an outdoor restaurant and brewery which has been shut down for the past 3 days, they told me they are opening back up on Wednesday. But they told me yesterday they were opening back up on Tuesday. The lady told me it was "day to day".

A Google search for the Ridge Rider coaster from mid June said they were targeting a mid-July opening.

This probably put that in jeopardy.

I'm due there in mid-August with my wife and son. He's 1.5 so I'm limited as it is. I don't think this order would affect me too much, but certainly it would if you were planning on being out late drinking and eating.

I'm staying in Nevada, so I'm hoping that helps as Nevada needs Vegas to be operational as much as possible.

Just got back from Tahoe! We had a blast and the boys said it was one of their favorite vacations ever!

Flew from Dallas Love Field Wednesday to Sacramento.....picked up rental and drove to Incline Village (stopping in Truckee to eat along the way).

Stayed at Hyatt Regency Incline Village. We were satisfied with the room (didn't stay in it much).

Thursday: Felt a little like Adam Cartwright!!! I woke up super early and headed into Carson City for supplies!!! Got back about 9am and then we hiked up to Monkey Rock and hiked a few other trails around there that morning. That afternoon we did a zipline/ropes course (prob the boys favorite thing).

Friday: Hired a fishing charter and caught Mackinaw and Rainbow Trout. Our guide cleaned a few of them for us and we took them next door to Garwood's. They cooked them for us for lunch! The fish tacos were excellent! That afternoon we went to Emerald Bay and hiked several trails around there.

Saturday: Went to Sand Harbor Beach (prob one of the boys favorite areas with all the big rocks to climb on) and hiked around that area during the morning and then went back to the hotel to see the SEC rob AR against Auburn!!! Afterwards we went to the private beach across from the Hotel and the boys played in the water (it was crazy cold!!!).

Sunday: We drove down to Calaveras Big Tree State Park and checked out the Giant Sequoias (Sierra Redwoods). Pretty awesome but a little dicey drive! Came back to the resort and the kids played in the heated pool and used our "smore kit" provided by the hotel.

Monday: Drove back to Sacramento and had an uneventful flight back to Dallas.

I've only been in mid July and even then the water is freezing cold.

But sooooo clear. Crazy how clear the water is. We kayaked over to Emerald Bay and being able to see the massive boulders all the way at the bottom of the lake is cool.

ETA: Glad you and your kids had a great trip! Jealous, a getaway to Lake Tahoe right now sounds amazing.

Def want to hit up Emerald Bay.

There is a trail head near Emerald bay that goes up to Maggies Peaks and passes by Granite lake. The trail and peak gives some amazing views of the lake and bay.

Speaking of, you ever climb in the back of Eagle lake at the desolation wilderness trail head? It’s so damn exposed. Beautiful out there.
