I'm in SF almost every month for work and, while noticeable, the addicts/homesless are very-confined to Tenderloin, SoMa and Mission.

That said, I wouldn't let that deter you from going to the aforementioned neighborhoods. Mission has great Mexican food + Mission Dolores, Tenderloin has good cocktail bars and SoMa has a couple good craft beer spots, including City Beer Store and Cellarmaker.

This is my biggest issue with San Francisco. Their mentally ill homeless are on another level. Much more violent and confrontational than the homeless I've encountered in other cities.

Have had one dude yell at me, but most keep to themselves. No matter how many times I've been there, though, the drug use is a bit unsettling. I had some guy blow smoke from a crack/meth pipe in my face at, like, 8:00am.

I'm so disappointed in their new location. They went from being a cool, funky place to a clean, corporate, boring place.

Is it bad enough to hinder your trip? Will i be stepping over human shite every time i walk somewhere?

I'm assuming you're not going there for a vacation. If you are, you might consider any number of nicer destinations...Bhagdad, Beirut, Mogadishu.

It’s bad but it’s bad everywhere. Don’t let it hinder you.

I’m in the tenderloin everyday and I ride BART everyday and the homeless population give me zero problem. San Francisco is an amazing world class city but listening to Rush Radio you would think it was a 3rd world. Don’t listen to that

It’s bad. My aunt was murdered on New Years Eve by a homeless person a year ago. Guy jumped out of an alley and stabbed her to death on the street.

Are you deaf? Do you have a learning disability, or both?

So kinda funny story. Not really...

Did a family trip to SF two years ago. Found a great deal at the Palace Hotel in the financial district. Got a recommendation from the concierge for a breakfast spot known for their beignets. A taste of home sounded like a good idea. So we used Google maps and it was only a mile away. We decided it would be a fun walk with the kids.

Not! The route took us right through the heart of the Tenderloin. We witnessed open defecation and IV drug use as there were hundreds in homeless camps along the way. Keep in mind I’ve got my then 5 and 10 year old with us. We weren’t harassed; but, we surely stood out like a sore thumb. Needless to say; we took an Uber back to the hotel.

Lesson learned...

Those aren't the homeless. Those are the Raider fans.
