I've have to be in Prague for an obligation in August.

I have a rental car and five days AFTER I'm done in Prague and I have to end up in Munich for my return flight home.

I will have seen enough of Prague that I will be ready to leave.

Any suggestions as to potential Itineraries for the last five days?

My thought right now is going to Vienna or Salzburg for two nights, then Munich & nearby for the last three days, I don't mind driving and sunlight during August days are long there.

I've seen Nuremberg and Rothenburg and Ulm and Stuttgart so Central Germany is kinda "been there-done that".

TIA

ETA:I've also seen München a bit and Schloss Linderhof & Garmisch-P/Zugspitze but my traveling companion has not.

I really enjoy Salzburg and the surrounding lake region, Hallstatt in particular.

Cesky Krumlov is a beautiful town and would be in the direction of Munich. And you are about an 8 hour drive from Ljubliana which is another pretty town and from there its an hour to Lake Bled and the Julian Alps.

Salzburg and the surrounding area is beautiful. Stunning, actually. No wonder so much beautiful music came from that area.

However, if you have not been to Vienna, you can’t miss it. I think it’s the most beautiful of the major cities in that part of Europe (Prague, Budapest, Bratislava, Munich, Vienna). They have a few world class museums, Lipizzaner stallions, the Sachre Torte, Stiegl Pils, the best opera houses in Europe, and Demel Chocolatier. Oh, and of course, the requisite massive historical cathedral.

In Munich, don’t forget to take a train to Dachau. It’s a must as well.

Thanks everyone, you all have given me great ideas to chew on.

Luckily, the wife unit lets me do the planning without input, up till now I've shown I can be trusted.

Feel free to embellish/add/amend at your leisure!

Salzburg is lovely, quaint, but ultimately a pretty compact place. It's not buzzing with nightlife or a "scene". On the other hand, it is easy to navigate, scenic, and close enough to Munich to make the final leg of your journey an easy drive.

From that general area, you can do the castle at Hohenschwangau (Mad King Ludwig's folly), and the Eagle's Nest/Berchtesgaden. All of this assumes that you & wife do not mind driving/riding on twisty mountain roads.

There's a ton of things to do in the Alps that are not super American touristy but I absolutely enjoy. Simple things like walks and hikes, to more touristy things. Many of the ski lifts operate during the summer and you can take the lifts up to hike and enjoy the views, have a beer up top, and then hike or take the lift back down at your leisure.

Ice cave-one of the coolest things I've seen and amazing alp views:

We did the Sound of Music Bike Tour in Salzburg. Good way to explore the town and local area, and you seen most of the places they filmed the movie.
