re: Is there a cruise ship hierarchy?

The only cruise I’ve ever went on was Carnival two years ago and it felt like I was on a floating Walmart. The people on there was just nasty. I’m 57 and in decent shape but I’d would say 65 % were obese. The women would be in a two piece bathing suit weighing well over 200 lbs. My wife is 57 also and without a doubt one of the prettier women on the entire ship. Food was terrible also

I’m going on my first cruise on RC Mariner of the Seas out of Galveston in a couple months. I’m stoked to do the flow rider and sing karaoke.

Royal Caribbean = Hilton. Carnival = Super 8.

Just did a seven day Disney cruise to France / Italy and if that’s considered one of the nicer cruise lines - I never ever want to step foot on another cruise.
Interesting. What ship?
What were the issues?
No cruise line is perfect by any means. Try Carnival next time and report back.

Oh, I’m sure carnival is a lot worse
I was on The Dream from Barcelona. Had never cruised before and it was just a weird experience. Kind of like flying southwest airlines. Too many people in one place. Fat asses pounding free ice cream the whole time on the boat. The buffets all looked absolutely disgusting so I never ate at one. The six meals we had at the various restaurants were all very, very poor with Remy being the exception. That was actually a good meal although it should be since it’s priced at $600 per person. The adult bar up top of the ship was nice as well.
I travel a lot and have some amazing experiences and for the price spent for that cruise, I don’t really understand why people continue to do it. You can do a really nice vacation at an exotic location while staying at a nice hotel for about the same price. I guess I just hate being so close to so many people

Are you sure about that price, did Remy about 5 years ago and it was around $80 a person.

We had a private room and lots of wine with a ten course meal
Palo was about $80 a head and was not very good at all

I would probably only cruise on Celebrity again!
No comparison....smaller boat, amount of people and the experience was simply WAY BETTER.

Dang. You didn't like ANYTHING at Palo?
What did you get to eat?

I had zero complaints with Palo but we went for lunch so it was a bit cheaper. The lasagna was excellent.
When on DCL, I am all about MDR for dinner. It's one of the cruise lines biggest draws.

Have you ever had the chicken parm?

Yeah, no complaints there.

The gnocchi amuse-bouche was really good. Caprese salad was underwhelming but edible. I personally didn’t care for the fish dish at all, the chicken dish was very average and the lobster pasta was horrible. The chocolate dessert that everyone raved about was pretty good. Being fair, It was one of the better meals we had on the cruise but was worse than all the meals we had off the boat during the week.
What does MDR stand for?? Maybe I missed that restaurant??

MDR = Main Dining Room
I would have suggested sticking with more traditional Italian

Did all the themed restaurants but must have missed the main dinning room.
The calamari at palo was pretty good as well. Forgot to mention that.

Agreed. I have never NOT done the Italian at Palo. Great food and experience every time.

I could be wrong but, I don’t think Italian was offered as a main course offering during our dinner service.

I am talking about Palo, I would have suggested sticking more with traditional italian when you went to Palo rather than fish and chicken entrees.
Something maybe like the osso bucco or lamb ragu rather than free range chicken and if I had a pescatarian in my group I would have suggested the pappardelle or prosciutto pizza.
