You may have gotten away with it with that particular ferry crew, but there was an announcement about turning off engines (you can leave your fan blowing on accesory) and putting on the parking brake when I rode it from Ft. Morgan to Dauphin on August 20th.
They also did it for this tik-tokker as you can hear the anouncement:

Nothing specific on their website, though.

It’s absolutely true. I rode it for the first time last summer and had no idea you couldn’t leave your car running. One of the deck hands noticed I had my engine on and made me turn it off.
