Overall all the international airlines are way better than our domestic companies.
Never been on Air Canada, eh?
Also, if you're flying any airline in or out of the US, especially to the EU, the airlines have a lot of financial and logistical interest in not delaying passengers. A United 777 to Frankfurt isn't going to be operated much differently than a Lufthansa 747 heading to Frankfurt from Houston. How much booze they serve you in economy is another matter.
You're screwed because of the small market. All the domestics have a choice of delaying a regional jet out of Jackson, due to capacity in Newark or Charlotte, or delaying a 737 or 757 coming out of Chicago or DFW.
Living at a hub has its advantages, but I'm also flexible in planning and somewhat price insensitive. If the ticket costs 15% more not to route through Chicago or New York, I'm spending the money.

The worst airline is whatever one you had the most recent terrible experience with.
Took me a long time to get over the time United cancelled my flight and put me in a literal $40/night roadside motel 30 minutes from IAH
