Thinking about a Saints road trip to Indy. Never been. Decent place to visit?

I went there when LSU played in the final four there. It was alright. Not exactly a vacation paradise
The famous downtown restaurant is St Elmo’s Steakhouse. If you want to go there make reservations in advance because it is very popular.

I haven't been back in a while, but was born nearby. If you have time, Mammoth Caverns in KY. It's not Chicago, but it's awe inspiring.
Fun fact about Indiana, nearly every road runs E-W or N-S. You can find your way from Bloomington to South Bend without a map.

We went for the title game 2 years ago. Our experience may be different because it was early January and absolutley freezing fricking cold. They did have a lot of places eithe runderground or in tunnels though which helped. Lucas Oil is right near the downtowny kinda stuff and I remember you could enter into a mall/hotel kinda building and walk all the way to the stadium without being outside.
St. Elmos was mentioned, we didn't get a chance to go but you definitely need reservations well in advance. They also have a very famous deli Shapiros that's about 3 or 4 blocks from the stadium that has massive sandiwch portions. I recall it being pretty expensive for a sandwich, but there were certainly no compalints about hte size or taste.
I have no comlaints about Indy and the stadium itself was just fin eas well. It's probably not somehwere I'd actively yearn to revisit but if I found myself having to be there I wouldn't hate it.

Very underrated city honestly.
The downtown is clean and Lucas Oil is right in the downtown area. Great breweries and restaurants.

If you are going to watch the game, eat, drink, and party, Indy is very good for that. There are a lot of monuments downtown - I think only Washington, DC has more monuments than Indy (in the US), so you can walk around and view those. There's not a lot of tourist attractions that are noteworthy.
If you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of downtown, Zionsville, Carmel, and Broad Ripple are good areas to go eat and walk around in.

I've been a few times for B1G Championship games and a Final Four / National Championship. It's a great host city for sporting events because all bars are walking distance and downtown is clean. Not sure I'd have reason to visit otherwise, but I enjoyed myself (probably helped the city was chalked with Wisconsin fans).
