Wed 9pm Update: I've hit my character limit per post. All airlines will let you check luggage for free at the affected airports. Delta, AA, United are included in this.

Tues 9pm Update: Figured this can be helpful to anyone traveling this week in the NC, SC, east coast region. Waivers are up for all airlines, I didn't include spirit's but if someone needs it I can help with that. Looks like the worst travel days will be Thursday night through Sunday, even that might not be the end of that. Washington DC is an iffy getting rebooked on for some carriers like AA, but waivers are definitely up for Southwest for DC and Baltimore. I just noticed southwest has included Jacksonville and Atlanta in their waivers. For those in the area, take full advantage if there's a flight time you prefer better than that 6am.

Flying Thursday morning at 7am from Greensboro->Miami->Panamá City Panamá

My thought was for us to fly out Wednesday night to Miami instead and spend one night there and keep the 2nd flight Thursday to Panamá because American is letting people rebook for free. But when I called them earlier we would have to leave and arrive on the same day. Couldn’t split it up in two days otherwise I would have to pay a change fee.

I think I’ll be ok though leaving that early Thursday considering Greensboro is pretty far inland.

You got a bad agent. Call back and get rebooked if you really want to go early!

Update for southwest flyers. Washington DC is now included in the waiver, go rebook if you don't like your flight times!

I have some coworkers flying from NOLA to NYC on Saturday (and then on to Dubai)...I told them to keep an eye out, because I could see the airline system being pretty messed up during all of the hurricane madness. What do you think?

Was scheduled to fly to Greenville, SC today for a work related conference. Flying back on Friday morning.

The event got postponed to a later date but that date hasn't been announced yet. I was flying AA to Greenville and flying back on United.

United waiver much better than AA's as they are basically letting me cancel the flight and I can rebook with no change fees once I know the date.

AA is only waiving the change fee if I fly before Sept 19.

AA has some terrible agents, just request a refund after cancellation due to the hurricane. If they fight back, escalate with the DOT

AA now says that the change fee "may be wiaved" for DCA, IAD, and BWI Sept. 10-19. Just got the email this afternoon.

I'm flying out of DCA on Thursday morning, so I think I should be good. An AA agent waived the change fee for me last night (I was originally scheduled to fly out Friday night after work).

Update: And AA says whoops we made a mistake.

Earlier today, we inadvertently notified you of a travel alert for the Washington, D.C.-area. At this time, American has not issued a travel alert for this area, as the current forecast models have the storm remaining south of the nation’s capital. We apologize for the confusion.

The American team continues to monitor the track of the storm, which is forecast to impact portions of North and South Carolina later this week. If the path of the storm changes, you will be notified via email regarding any additional travel alerts or changes to your itinerary.

As always, we recommend that before heading to the airport that you check your flight status on the American Airlines app or at aa.com, and sign up for flight status notifications.

Updated the OP. Interesting thing I found was a weather waiver on southwest for atlanta and jacksonville through I think it's Monday

What's amusing is in their travel advisory, they added a section in the change fee waivers on DCA/BWI/IAD but it is extremely unclear . It's added in the OP so we can try to figure out why they'd include DC under that section.

It will likely be an issue, where are you trying to get to? Maybe switch from a layover to a nonstop? Being in the northeast you have plenty of options on AA. Think about your preference for airport (EWR/JFK/LGA) and time (mid am, noon, afternoon) then we'll find the best timed flights from there .

Thanks, my man. I’m going from Pensacola to LGA on American. I may chat with them this morning and see what the options are. I don’t mind having to hop over to Dallas or whatever just need to get back by Sunday whenever. Original flight was at 9 out of Pensacola. Layover in CLT and into LGA at 3.

ETA: rebooked through Dallas. Not ideal but it’s my best move to get myself in at a decent time and stay away from anything that may be impacted by the storm and not have to worry about it while I’m at the beach.

I too will be flying out of pensacola Sunday morning at 9am

Glad you got rebooked. Dallas is likely your safest bet (havent checked weather for there yet) or MIA. Those nonstop flights to DC or PHL are I think super early or late afternoon plus may have weather problems
