How is JetBlue?

I'm looking at some upcoming travel and JetBlue has some rates that are shockingly low, like it almost seems like a misprint. I'm aware of the budget airlines like Spirit and Frontier and how they are bottom of the barrel across the board and will nickel and dime for every add-on...is JetBlue the same way?

JetBlue has a screen in every seatback, something you definitely won't find on Spirit and Frontier. The used to offer more legroom than the big legacy airlines, but they are now retrofitting planes to scale back to the level of American, United, and Delta. You will still get a free snack and drink onboard.

Where JetBlue has had trouble lately is with on-time operations. Part of that has been related to ATC issues in the NYC area, but part of it is related to JetBlue's own failures.

But the current verdict is generally quality and friendly service, but more potential for a delay.

Flew jet blue for the first time in 20 years (honestly, if ever) in October a was pleasantly surprised. New interiors to planes (maybe new planes… not sure) with movies in every seat back, clean, friendly crew and we were on time both flights. Will be a return customer for sure. Blew United and American out of the water … though American is not hard to beat in my experience.

We flew them to JFK direct from MSY.

Really enjoyed it.

Couple years back had a trip to the Caribbean on AA. The cancellations piled up so high in DFW that their best offer was a 2.5 day delay rebook to our destination.

I said F that and drove to NOLA to catch a last minute flight on Jet Blue. Great experience

good deal thanks all. Looks like I have nothing to worry about!

Delta and SW are the only airlines I've ever flown. There are some American flights that also look good but all I ever hear is bad stuff about them, including this very thread ha. Will try to avoid them.

I think they have the best economy hard product, or if not second to Delta, but their on time performance is horrible. Worse than Spirit and Allegiant and barely above Frontier.

yikes.

Would you feel comfortable if you were one of their first flights of the day, like a pre-8am takeoff? Or still avoid at all costs?

If it's the best route and cheapest flight, definitely. Early morning flights are a lot less likely to have issues.

On Time Percentage by US Carrier 2024:
Delta Air Lines (83.46%)
United Airlines (80.93%)
Alaska Airlines (79.25%)
American Airlines (77.78%)
Southwest Airlines (77.77%)
Spirit Airlines (76.05%)
JetBlue Airways (74.53%)
Frontier Airlines (71.57%)

It's not like you're going from a guaranteed no delay to a guaranteed delay here.

I fly Jet Blue once a year or so when I find a better deal than my preferred airlines on a direct flight with better times. Arriving at the time I want/need is generally more beneficial than status upgrades. Haven't noticed worse delays than anyone else.

Its an airline, its fine, same airport, same gates, generally same planes.

I have flown them numerous times from MSY to JFK/LGA, Boston and Ft Lauderdale. NO issues. Have always been on time.

They attempted to buy Spirit buy Justice Dept killed the deal.

For years my main travel route has been Boston/New York to Tampa/West Palm. Several direct flights daily and I exclusively fly JetBlue for those routes. They used to be excellent, now they're very good. I have very few problems on several flights per year. Would recommend, especially first flight of day.
