Looking for some Hiking recommendations in Helen Ga Area.
I prefer longer hikes that take all day.

We will be tent camping at Jenny's Creek Family Campground, south west of Helen. North west of Cleaveland Ga.
We will camp here and go out day hiking. 8-12 mile hikes are about perfect. Give or take.

Last years recommendation of Fiery Gizzard in the Chattanooga area was outstanding. I have been recommending this trail along with the Foster Falls campground to everyone I come across.

There are tons of good places to go.
You can go to Amicalola Falls, i think that's how you spell it. That's where the start of the Appalachian trail is. If you're looking for a longer hike, what better place to start than on the appalachian trail.
That waterfall is the tallest one east of the mississippi. You can hike the height of the entire waterfall. It's all stairs, but it's like 600 something steps, and the view from the top is great. It's a rather strenuous hike up the stairs.
Toccoa Falls is a very pretty waterfall to see, but its a short hike, maybe a mile round trip. That's the tallest free falling waterfall east of the MS.

All the ones i've done have been a good bit shorter than you're looking for. High Shoals (all down hill going in, rough going back up), Ravens Cliff (hardly any elevation change until the very end), Hemlock (plenty of water falls, but an easy short hike).

So i'd recommend Amicalola and do some of the Appalachian Trail

Amicalola is a good suggestion. As mentioned, you can start there and get onto Springer Mountain, which is the start of the AT.

Closer to Helen is Anna Ruby Falls, but it is a short, not super strenuous hike. Also you will be pretty close to Mount Yonah (between Helen and Cleveland). It's about a 4 hour round trip, but it gains a little over 1500 feet in elevation in under 3 miles. This is where the the Army does the Mountain phase of Ranger School, and the trail goes through, or very near, the area they use.

Also look into Raven Cliff Falls or Smithgall Woods.

Sorry, no recommendation for that area....but, if you haven't already give Standing Indian Loop a try. We camped at the SI Campground and did loop in 3 days. It was absolutely a fantastic trail to hike.

Also, the websites are a good reference for getting info on hiking trails.

If you drive a little bit over to Clayton this is a fantastic 5 hour hike...in and back. You'll pass several waterfalls during your hike.

We stuck to alot shorter hikes I would guess 1-8 Mile hikes RT.... but one that was slightly off the beaten path that we enjoyed was Hemlock Falls.

That area is great, hop on youtube and do some research and you'll find some great hikes.
