Taking a week road trip with the wife and pup the day after Christmas. Two nights in Dahlonega, GA and 4 Highlands, NC. No real plans just to get away and enjoy time away from work. Anything specifically worth doing on restaurants worth going to?

It's been forever since I've been to Highlands, but I used to actually love that place when I lived in Atlanta.

Highlands: 465 Woodfire Bistro. Next to the Old Edwards Inn where we always stay.

Ride up Hwy 64 and stop at all the waterfalls...especially Dry Falls.

Shenanigans in Dahlonega is a cool Irish bar. Go downstairs. Locals are really friendly. Good beer selection and surprisingly good food. Think dollar bills stuck to ceiling kinda place

Also see if anything is showing at the Holly theater

Tallulah Falls State Park is a nice little hike if you're into that sort of thing(they have a few different trails, depending on how much you want to do). It's in northeast GA, not too far from either of your destinations. I'd also recommend breakfast at the Dillard House in Dillard, GA.

if you want good steak go to the The Oak Steakhouse at The Skyline Lodge just outside Highlands. Get there before sunset and sit at the bar and enjoy the nice view.

Casual grab and go food is good at Mountain Goat market.

Tons of great hikes in the area as well as waterfalls. A very easy but nice hike (Sunset Rock) starts right in town. Also, Satullah Mountain hike starts in town and is mostly along city streets. Last 1/3 is off the road and ends up at a nice 180 degree vista.

Download the AllTrails app to get maps of all the trails.

If you like to fly fish, consider hiring a guide through Brookings fly shop in town. They have some great private water

Yes! So glad to hear it's still there. This was my spot!

I went there last may. Skyline Lodge is a cool place but I don't think I would want to be there in December. Cold and windy is not a good combination.

It is. Been completely renovated. They kept the cool style but made it really nice. The lobby dual fireplaces would be a good spot to hang out in December.

Nice little winery in Dahlonega. Stayed at the cabin on the vineyard grounds.

Highlands - Not sure if they're around this time of year but hiking to check out the Peregrine Falcons was really cool.

Highway 64 from Highlands to Franklin, enjoy the water falls along the way. A few really nice ones on this road, one you can even drive under. Two you need to get out of the car and see, both worth it, one you can walk under.

When you get to Franklin, find the hot spot gas station. In this gas station there is a French cafe called Caffe REL. don’t go on a Sunday or Monday, they are closed. You won’t regret it. Recommend the Coquille St Jacques and the Chocolate Cake.

Lots of good restaurants in Highlands as well.
