Looking at scheduling a week in Hawaii in the coming weeks. We don’t want to island hop too terribly much, partly because the wife will be 20 weeks pregnant. We like to explore, be adventurous and eat good.

What islands/cities would you recommend for someone who doesn’t want to hang at the beach the whole time but would have some restrictions based on pregnancy?

Sounds like Oahu to me. The most populous of the islands, probably the most to do without doing beaches and hiking.

Maui has a bit of everything "Hawaii" and easy to get around (with the exception of the road to Hana).

Great restaurants, hiking/outdoors, and beaches. Lahaina area is a good place to stay.

Wife and I did Kauai at 21 weeks and loved it. Grand Hyatt there has fantastic pools and we drove around the island to all the sites. Also did a helicopter ride which was no issue. Just couldnt do boat tours.

We went at 12 weeks and my wife puked her guts up on the helicopter ride in Kauai. That said, Kauai is a great destination for a less crowded and laid back place to visit. It's my happy place.

if you want to relax don't come to Oahu. Its fun but it definitely is somewhat exhausting just cause you would want to see all the beaches

Well what did you expect at 12 weeks?

It's an amazing place.

I love the Big Island, get a Jeep and take it all over (except around Kilauea).

Other than Oahu, you can’t really go wrong with Hawai’i.

Go to Maui. Stay in Kapalua at the Ritz-Carlton in the club level.

Did it for my honeymoon and now I don’t want to go anywhere else. Also booked through Costco and was very affordable

The north shore of Kauai is an incredible place. We've been to both Maui and Oahu but they pale in comparison to Kauai.

You are the first person I've read/heard that went to the Kapalua part of Maui for their honeymoon. We recently booked a place at The Kapalua Villas. But, I wasn't hearing much about other people going to that area and was starting to doubt my decision.

Do you have any recommendations for restaurants, bars in that Kapalua community area or anything on that side of the island in general?

I just got back from Kauai a few weeks ago. If you're looking for a quiet, relaxing environment with good views, this is your island. Not much for nightlife though (which was fine with me).

Wife and I did the big Island at 24 weeks. Plenty of scenery to take in on the big island, so you’re not confined to the beach.
