Tinkering with the idea of doing a family trip to Guancaste. Have neevr been to the Pacific side of CR. Thinking of a combo beach/jungle adventure thing.

Anyone ever done this trip? Thoughts?

Just south of there is Montezuma, and it’s an incredible place. The waterfalls just out of town are literally the most beautiful spot you’ll ever see, but you have to hike up above the first 80 footer for it to open up. Cabo Blanco is a nature preserve on the tip of that peninsula, it’s outrageously beautiful. Hiking to that beach goes through old and new growth forest. Mal Pias is an incredible surf spot...

Do it.

We made a trip there last January. Spent half the week at a beach town called Tamarindo then we went further inland to the Arenal Volcano area. We fit a bunch of activities into the two areas and both were great in their own ways. I am glad we did the split.

We went in Feb. of 19’ and the weather was perfect! Did the volcano tour which came with some hiking, zip lines, water slides, horseback riding, also visited some hot springs. Also did a catamaran tour from coco beach and we really enjoyed it! Overall it was a nice trip but at the same time I don’t really feel the need to go back.

We did it for two weeks. We did a week north of Tamarindo and a week in Montezuma. We definitely like the Montezuma vibe more than the area around Tamarindo.

There is a lot to do near the Arenal Volcano and LaFortuna. There's hiking, zip lining, canoeing, nature walks, etc. There is so much wildlife to see there and some really cool rescues you can sort of volunteer at (you pay, but it's cool) that your kids would probably like. We spent 3 nights there and then 2 in Tamarindo. Tamarindo was fun, but was very Americanized with a lot of expats living there. There's also Manuel Antonio (beach area) and Monteverde, one of the few cloud forests on the planet.

There is a really lot of cool ecotourism. So many birds, animals, etc. We saw sloths. Love them!

I'm pretty sure I could live in Costa Rica. I felt safe and people were friendly. We rented a car and easily drove around.
