Grand Hotel in Fairhope Question

We stayed in a renovated room a couple months ago. It was more swanky looking, but didn't exactly feel like we were at the Grand. More like something you would see in a downtown setting. The plus side is we were close to the main lobby building for things near there, but farther away from the pool. I've never stayed in a Bay View room, always resort view or in the spa building. To me, the view doesn't matter much. You're not spending a ton of time in the room. What building you are in and how close it is to the things you will be doing matters more, because it is a large property you'll be walking across.

The main plus to the renovated room to me was coffee. They all have a Keurig machine, where the older rooms may still have an old hotel style coffee machine. You can still walk to the lobby every morning for free coffee.

ETA: This was our 4th or 5th trip down there. Last year we were in the Marina Building. Right next to the pool. Which was great. Back in June we were in the south Bay House, so closer to restaurants, lobby area, cannon firing etc. I'd pick the pool over any of that if you have small kids.

That's how my dad felt too. He stayed for some conference he was part of. Enjoyed the place but said it was geared more towards family vacations. He wasn't going to take advantage of kayaks and bikes like we do. There should be an option for folks that just want a nice room and pool.

The old rooms suck. It will feel like you are sleeping in the bathroom after a hot shower. Everything is damp.

The renovated rooms are solid. I prefer the spa building.
