Last time I was there about a year and a half ago the last little stretch of this one was still closed off due to the fire in 2016. Most of the hike is fine but you couldn't access the rock scramble at the end. Still a good hike, but pretty a pretty strenuous one to not have the payoff at the end.

I didn't know that. Why would the fire cause it to be closed? The fire can't damage the rocks.

Train and Raft

We did this a few years ago; took the train in Bryson City to raft at Nantahala River. It was a blast. There is a train museum at the depot that was actually pretty cool.
Check out Mingo Falls outside of Cherokee.

I think it was something about protecting the vegetation that was just starting to grow back in the area, including out of all the cracks in the rocks. It seemed weird to me too

Definitely take your girls to Dollywood. Or since it'll be hot, so Splash Country. Haven't been there yet, but plan on going a ton this summer. Just got back from another wonderful at Dollywood about an hour ago.

Dolly's Stampede is fun, I've heard all the other dinner shows are too.

The only thing I'd say to skip is the aquarium. It's small and way overpriced.

Are you going for the cities or for the park?

City stuff I have liked.

Skywalk
Ole Smokey Mountain Candy Store
Dollywood

That's about it, I go for the park.

Inside the park

Cades cove! Bears, deer, turkeys and history, The Sinks, Tubing at Deep Creek, Laurel falls, Abram Falls, Clingman's dome, Chimney Tops, Elk at the the Cherokee visitor center, Roaring Fork Motor Trail.

Giving this a bump. We’re heading down third week of June. We’re familiar with stuff on the strip but want to check out maybe some lesser known aspects of the area.

Also curious about white water rafting suggestions.

Looking for a cabin recommendation or location for 2 adults wanting upscale and privacy in the smokies. Thanks in advance! Going mid August. Also adult things to do? Thinking of going to Asheville for some foodie brewery as well.

Visit the Biltmore in Asheville

Greenbrier restaurant in Gatlinburg is somewhat upscale for the area.

Visit your kinfolk at Fannie Farkle’s on the Parkway and have the sausage with peppers and onions.
