Heading to Gatlinburg with the family for the first time. Gonna do Cades Cove, Dollywood, white water rafting and Ober Gatlinburg. Is there something else I’m missing?

Lots of good easy hikes. Laurel and Grotto falls are very easy and great payoff. We’re doing Alum Bluff and Rainbow falls this summer. Will be jumping off the rock at The Sinks. Roaring Fork is a great drive. Go early to find pull off spots otherwise not many places to park. We don’t spend much time in the actual town of Gatlinburg. Too many people and nothing there is a must do, for us anyway. We did the Ripleys stuff last year and all decided never again.

We went for the 1st time last year and had a lot of fun. As far as stuff to do, it depends on how old your kids are. I have 2 boys, 20 and 16. We did most of the things your doing, white water rafting was fun, Dollywood was the nicest, cleanest amusement park I've ever been too. We took the lift to the suspension bridge with a glass floor, great views, rented an ATV, they are street legal, and drove to Cades Cove, saw some bears. On the way we stopped at a place called The Sinks and jumped off some rocks into the water, probably about 20' high. Overall, had a great time and would go back, Tennessee is beautiful.

Anakeesta

Was one of the worst travel experiences of my life. Don't go if it's crowded. There isn't enough to do at the top. Do not EVER, NOT EVER, go if there is any chance of severe weather. They have no shelter whatsoever at the top of the mountain other than one restaurant. They have no plan for getting you down other than the "mountain ramblers" that hold about 30 people per trip. The road is also one way, so they can't pass each other going and coming.

We went up around 7 PM to watch the sunset. I hadn't paid attention to the weather. They continued to let people up on the mountain, even though they had closed ever single thing but the restaurant and drink stands. Everything was closed to we were in line to go down by 8 PM. Still in line because they closed the lift due to lightning in the area. Huge storm hit at 9. No shelter. It was around 11 PM when we finally boarded a bus and got down the mountain. There were lots of people in line behind us. Little kids, wet and in the storm. It's happened there a lot.
